Performances of hybrid Natural Fiber-Reinforced Composites (NFRCs) from E-glass, Nacha (Hibiscus macranthus Hochst. Ex-A. Rich.), and Sisal (Agave sisalana) fibers are investigated for wind turbine blades applications. The process of composite manufacturing was getting started with harvesting and extracting the fibers from undesired constituents. To improve the interfacial interaction between fibers, it was further treated with 5% of NaOH and remnants removal. The experiment was performed based on the Taguchi method, specifically with L16 orthogonal array. Four levels of a natural fiber weight ratio (i.e. 5%, 10%, 15 %, and 20%) were considered during the composite preparations process while the weight of glass fiber was maintained at 5% and 10%. The composites are manufactured using the hand lay-up method, and the test specimens are as per American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) standards. Then, tensile, compressive, and flexural tests were carried out using a universal testing machine (UTM). Analysis of variance (ANOVA) was employed to determine the factors which affect the experimental responses. Hence, in the main effect, it was confirmed that Nacha fiber (%wt of N) significantly contributes to tensile, compressive, and flexural strength at a 95% level of confidence. Furthermore, the optimal fiber compositions of composites are determined based on a higher signal-to-noise ratio (S/N) for the corresponding strengths.The occurrence of emerging contaminants (ECs) such as pharmaceuticals, personal care products (PPCPs) and pesticides in the aquatic environment has raised serious concerns about their adverse effects on aquatic species and humans. Because of their toxicity and bioactive nature, PPCPs and pesticides have more potential to impair water systems than any other contaminants, causing several adverse effects, including antibiotic resistance, reproductive impairment, biomagnification, bioaccumulation, etc. Over 35 publications from Africa have reported on the occurrence and fate of PPCPs and pesticides in African water systems with little or no data on remediation and control. As a result, adequate intervention strategies are needed for regulating the persistence of PPCPs and pesticides in African water systems.Excessive demand of concrete is causing depletion of natural sand resources. Especially, the extraction of river sand negatively affects its surrounding environment. A sustainable solution to this problem can be the proper utilization of waste materials and by-products like stone dust (SD) as fine aggregate replacement in concrete. The recycling of stone dust as a construction material lessens the use of natural resources and helps to solve landfill scarcity as well as environmental problems. Addition of nylon fiber (NF) as fiber reinforcement can also attribute to enhance the properties of concrete. This research aims at utilizing SD as fine aggregate along with NF, and assessing the compressive strength and splitting tensile strength of concrete. Although the individual effects of incorporating stone dust and nylon fiber in concrete have been investigated in previous researches, their combined effects, as well as effects of water cement (WC) ratio on concrete strength, have not been studied yet. In this study, volumetric percentages of stone dust (20%-50%) and nylon fiber (0.25%-0.75%) and three different water cement ratio (0.45, 0.50 and 0.55) have been considered as three independent variables to develop probabilistic models for compressive strength and splitting tensile strength of concrete using artificial neural network (ANN). The values of coefficient of determination (R2) and other statistical parameters of the developed probabilistic models indicate the accuracy of the models to predict the concrete strength. In terms of compressive strength at early age, the optimal percentages of SD and NF have been found as 20% and 0.25%, respectively. However, the strength gradually drops as water cement ratio elevates from 0.45 to 0.55. The reduction of the splitting tensile strength has been observed for increasing SD from 20% to 50%, whereas, strength increases for rising NF and WC up to mid-level.Mucins are a diverse and heterogeneous family of glycoproteins that comprise the bulk of mucus and the epithelial glycocalyx. Mucins are intimately involved in viral transmission. Mucin and virus laden particles can be expelled from the mouth and nose to later infect others. Viruses must also penetrate the mucus layer before cell entry and replication. The role of mucins and their molecular structure have not been well-characterized in coronavirus transmission studies. Laboratory studies predicting high rates of fomite transmission have not translated to real-world infections, and mucins may be one culprit. Here, we probed both surface and direct contact transmission scenarios for their dependence on mucins and their structure. The objectives of this study were to determine the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on Canadian plastic surgery residents' practice, wellness, and overall training.
Surveys for program directors and residents were created and disseminated to all English-speaking Canadian plastic surgery residency training programs. Survey results were pooled and presented as a percentage of responses for each question.
Response rates were 50% (n = 5/10) and 25% (n = 19/77) for program directors and residents, respectively. All program directors believed that the pandemic has a negative effect on resident wellness, 80% (n = 4/5) of which believed that their residents were coping effectively. They rated program support for resident wellness as neutral or supportive. Most programs (80%; n = 4/5) introduced strategies to support resident well-being. Most trainees (84%; n = 16/19) reported the pandemic as having a negative effect on their well-being, with approximately 50% endorsing worse emotional, social, psychological, and physical wellness, as well as feelings of burnout. Some reported difficulties coping (21%; n = 4/19). Residents felt that their wellness was supported externally by their own resilience (89%; n = 17/19), family members (74%; n = 14/19), friends (74%; n = 14/19), their partner (68%; n = 13/19), or co-residents (53%; n = 10/19). Internal support by their program was rated as neutral or negative (63%; n = 12/19).
Our findings of negative effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the wellness of Canadian plastic surgery trainees are concerning. Programs must implement appropriate identification and support strategies to improve resident well-being.

Scabies is an important predisposing factor of impetigo which can lead to serious bacterial complications. Ivermectin-based mass drug administration can substantially reduce scabies and impetigo prevalence in endemic settings, but the impact on serious bacterial complications is not known.
We conducted a before-after trial in the Northern Division of Fiji (population 131,914) of mass drug administration for scabies control. Prospective surveillance was conducted from 2018 to 2020. Mass drug administration took place in 2019, involving two doses of oral ivermectin or topical permethrin, delivered alongside diethylcarbamazine and albendazole for lymphatic filariasis. The primary outcomes were incidence of hospitalisations with skin and soft tissue infections, and childhood invasive infections and post-streptococcal sequelae. Secondary outcomes included presentations to primary healthcare with skin infections and community prevalence of scabies and impetigo.

Ablative therapies (AT) are increasingly being offered to patients with kidney tumors. In cases of failure or local relapse, salvage surgery may be required. Such procedures often require an open approach, are difficult and have received little attention in the literature. We aim to evaluate the feasibility of salvage robot-assisted partial nephrectomy (sRAPN) after AT.
We conducted a monocentric retrospective study of all patients who benefited from sRAPN. Clinical data were collected prospectively after written consent in the French UroCCR database.
Between 2013 and 2020, 724 RAPN were performed in our center; of these, 11 patients underwent salvage RAPN and four (36.4%) had an imperative indication for a solitary kidney. The median patient age was 54 (49-72) years, median preoperative glomerular filtration rate (GFR) was 65.5 (42.9-88.4) mL/min/1.73 m
, and median tumor diameter was 34 (16-38) mm. Extensive perinephric fibrosis was present in 90.9% of cases. Postoperative complications occurred in 36.4% of patients, including major complications in 18.2%. The median GFR at three months (56.8 [45.9-63.9] mL/min/1.73 m
) and at last follow-up (52.1 [45.85-68.3] mL/min/1.73 m
) were not significantly different to the preoperative GFR (P=0.51 and P=0.65, respectively). During follow-up (median 12 months), three patients (all with Von Hippel Lindau disease) developed a recurrence, but none were on the sRAPN site.
Our series of sRAPN following AT failure confirms that such surgery is feasible with good functional and oncological results. However, these surgeries remain difficult, are associated with significant complication rate and should be performed in expert centers.
