To examine the association between sexual minority status and the prevalence of emotional distress and substance use among a nationally-representative sample of youth who reported sexual violence victimization.
Data were from the 2017 National Youth Risk Behavior Survey, a biennial school-based survey. We restricted the sample to youth who reported any past-year sexual violence victimization. We estimated prevalence ratios using modified Poisson regression with robust error variance to examine associations of sexual minority status with depressive symptomology, suicidality, and substance use.
Among the 1,364 (9.7%) students who experienced sexual violence, 78% were girls. Relative to heterosexual youth, sexual minority youth had higher prevalence estimates for the emotional distress outcomes and marijuana use. Sexual minority status was associated with depressive symptomology (adjusted prevalence ratio 1.33, 95% confidence interval 1.22-1.44), suicidal ideation (aPR 1.91, 1.66-2.20), medically-treated suicide attempt (aPR 2.74, 1.53-4.93), and past 30-day marijuana use (aPR 1.29, 1.06-1.57).

However, due to concerns over the resource depletion and the environmental sustainability, bioresource-based manufacturing processes have been developed to cope against these concerns. Bioresource-derived 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid (FDCA) can be utilized as a building block material for plastic manufactures. To date, numerous technologies have been developed for the production of FDCA using various types of bio-based feedstocks such as hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF), 6-C sugars, and polysaccharides. The commercial companies produce FDCA using HMF-based production processes due to their high production efficiency, but the high price of HMF is a problem bottleneck. Our review affords important information on breakthrough approaches for the cost-efficient and sustainable production of FDCA using raw plant feedstocks rich in inulin. These approaches include bioprocessing technology based on the direct use of raw plant feedstocks and biomodification of the target plant sources. For the former, an ionic liquid-based processing system is proposed for efficient pretreatment of raw plant feedstocks. For the latter, the genes encoding the key enzymes; sucrosesucrose 1-fructoyltransferase (1-SST), fructanfructan 1-fryuctosyltransferase (1-FFT), fructan 1-exohydrolase (1-FEH), and microbe-derived endoinulinase, are introduced for biomodification conducive to facilitating bioprocess and improving inulin content. These approaches would contribute to cost-efficiently and sustainably producing bio-based FDCA.
Heart failure (HF) patients experience high burden of physical symptoms during their disease trajectory.
To evaluate the effects of Motivational Interviewing (MI) on the burden of physical symptoms in HF patients.
We performed a secondary analysis of data from the MOTIVATE-HF randomized controlled trial. A sample of 510 patients (median 74 years, 58% male) and their caregivers (median 55 years, 75.5% female) was randomly allocated to Arm 1 (MI only for patients), Arm 2 (MI for patients and caregivers), and Arm 3 (standard of care). The MI intervention consisted of one face-to-face session plus three telephone calls conducted within two months from enrollment. Symptoms' burden was assessed with the Heart Failure Somatic Perception Scale (HFSPS) with the dimensions of Chest Discomfort, Dyspnea, Early and subtle and Edema. Data were collected at baseline and at 3, 6, 9, and 12 months after enrollment.
At 12 months, Chest Discomfort improved in Arms 1 and 2 vs Arm 3 (Δ -8.13, 95%CI -14.61; -1.65). Dyspnea improved in Arms 1 and 2 vs Arm 3 both at 9 and 12 months (Δ -7, 95%CI -13.18; -0.82 and -6.78, 95%CI -13.19; -0.38); HFSPS total score improved in Arm 1 and Arm 2 vs Arm 3 at 9 months (Δ -4.55, 95%CI -9.05; -0.05). Over 1 year, Chest Discomfort and HFSPS total score in Arm 2 improved compared to Arm 3 (β= -2.61, 95%CI -4.21; -1.00, P = 0.0015 and β=-1.35, 95%CI -2.50; -0.21, P = 0.02).

While generalisability is often limited, randomisation aims to ensure that effects observed are genuine. However, there are common sources of bias, even in well-conducted trials, that pose a threat to this interpretation. The revised Cochrane risk-of-bias tool for trials (RoB 2) distinguishes five domains of bias that can affect the results of trials stemming from (1) the randomisation process, (2) deviations from intended interventions, (3) missing outcome data, (4) outcome measurement, and (5) reporting of findings. We use RoB 2 as a framework for recommendations to help researchers mitigate these sources of bias and ensure transparency in reporting so that users of research are aware of them.The stable and metastable phase diagrams between the sinister and the rectus ibuprofen enantiomers were established by means of thermal analysis and X-ray powder diffraction experiments as a function of temperature. The wine industry produces millions of tons of residue (pomace), which contains high levels of bioactive phytochemicals. The aim of this study was to clarify the potential benefits of grape pomace for the treatment of NAFLD at different levels of severity, and to clarify the mechanism of action. C57Bl/6 mice were given high fat diet (HFD) or western diet (WD) as models of obesity and hepatic steatosis or steatohepatitis, respectively, with or without pomace supplementation (50-250 mg/day). Pomace inhibited food intake, and reduced serum leptin and body weight gain. Ectopic fat deposition was reduced, while white adipose tissue mass was preserved. In addition, pomace improved glucose tolerance and insulin sensitivity, prevented the development of adipose tissue inflammation, and reduced hepatic steatosis. Higher expression of genes involved in fatty acids transport and oxidation was observed in adipose tissue, while lipogenic genes were attenuated in the liver of pomace-treated mice.
