In B cell acute lymphocytic leukemia (B-ALL), B cells are blocked mainly at the pro/pre-B phase, making them poorly responsive to imatinib. We aimed to investigate whether it was possible to promote pro/pre-B cell maturation beyond this phase and make them sensitive to imatinib treatment by overexpressing immunoregulatory tyrosine activation motif (ITAM) with BCR-ABL in a Ph+ B-ALL mouse model.
Ph+ B-ALL mouse models were induced by BCR-ABL using retroviral transduction/transplantation.
Overexpression of ITAM promoted the differentiation of blocked pro/pre-B cells to B220+IgM+ and increased disease sensitivity to imatinib in mice. Btk deficiency accelerated the progression of BCR-ABL-induced B-ALL.
B-cell development blockage released by ITAM renders leukemia cells sensitive to imatinib treatment in BCR-ABL-induced B-ALL.

Female sterilization is a permanent form of contraception offered to women who have completed their family size. Other methods are all temporary and meant to be reversible. A high-quality female sterilization service was introduced in Jos with the assistance of training in counseling and minilaparotomy under local anesthesia in May 1985. After training, female sterilization became available for couples desiring it on completion of family size.
This was a retrospective study of all clients who had female sterilization for contraception between 1985 and 2019. 2',3'-cGAMP The clinic register was retrieved and evaluated for acceptances of all contraceptive methods within the period and trends observed.
Over the 35 years, a total of 29,167 new clients accepted modern family planning methods. Out of these, a total of 5167 were female sterilizations, constituting 17.7% of the new acceptors. The temporary methods of contraception constituted 82.3%. The other methods used were the intrauterine device 8357 (28.7%), the oral pills 5125 (17.6%), the injectables 5235 (17.9%), and the contraceptive implants 5283 (18.1%). Although female sterilization was 4
among the five methods studied, there was however a gradual decline in its acceptance from a peak of 36.1% in 1992 to 1.4% in the year 2018.
The acceptance of female sterilization rose to a peak in 1992 and declined to the lowest level in 2018, occasioned in part by the introduction of varieties of contraceptive implants providing long acting, reversible, and cheap contraception.

Risky sexual behaviors (RSBs) are behaviors that could result in unwanted pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections. These behaviors are often initiated during adolescence, and the frequency of engagement in such behaviors rises with increasing age during the teenage years. It has been asserted that exposures to sexual materials early in life could lead to early sex debut among adolescents.
The objective of this study was to determine the early life exposures contributing to RSBs among basic school pupils in the Twifo Praso District of Ghana.
A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted using a structured questionnaire. Three hundred and sixty basic school pupils were selected by simple random sampling technique. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 20.
The study found that 64.4% of the respondents have had sexual intercourse at a mean age of 13.7 years. Respondents from polygamous homes were more likely to engage in earlier sexual debut than those from monogamous home (
= 0.0343,
= 0.003). Furthermore, having a high number of friends who have had sex was associated with an early sexual debut (
= 0.720,
= 0.000).
Adolescents are initiating sexual intercourse very early in life and this calls for customized reproductive health promotion activities aimed at minimizing risky sexual behaviors. Further studies on how parent-child sexual communication could delay sexual debut are recommended.

This article reports a 42-year-old man with a primary mediastinal YST. The patient presented with chest tightness and shortness of breath. Using a contrast-enhanced computer tomography (CT) scan, the mediastinal space was found to be occupied by a mass shadow, about 10 cm × 8 cm with a clear boundary and low density. Serum alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) was elevated to 7169.66 ng/ml. The 5th day after hospitalization, a percutaneous biopsy of the mediastinal mass was performed. Malignant tumor cells were found by cytologic examination. According to the pathological morphology and immunohistochemical results, the tumor was diagnosed as primary mediastinal YST. Subsequently, the patient underwent five cycles of adjuvant chemotherapy including bleomycin, etoposide, and cisplatin (BEP) and surgical tumor removal. One month after operation, AFP was elevated to 252.96 ng/ml. CT examination showed that the tumor recurred. As of September 12, 2020, the patient has undergone four cycles of VIP (etoposide, ifosfamide, cisplatin) chemotherapy after relapse, and the patient's condition is currently in partial remission.
Gastric cancer (GC) is one of the most common causes of cancer death. GSE83521 microarray analysis suggested that circular RNA circ_ASAP2 (hsa_circ_0008768) expression was increased in GC tissues. However, the molecular mechanism of circ_ASAP2 remains unknown.
Expression levels of circ_ASAP2, microRNA-770-5p (miR-770-5p), and the cyclin-dependent kinase 6 (CDK6) were detected by using real time PCR (RT-PCR). 3-(4,5-dimethyl-2-thiazolyl)-2,5-diphenyl-2-H-tetrazolium bromide (MTT) and transwell assays were applied to explore cell viability, migration, and invasion, respectively. The interactions between miR-770-5p and circ_ASAP2 or CDK6 was predicted by using Starbase software, and then confirmed by luciferase reporter assay. Xenograft tumor model was also used to estimate the effect of circ_ASAP2 on tumor growth
.
The expression levels of circ_ASAP2 and CDK6 were increased, and miR-770-5p level was decreased in GC tissues and cells. Furthermore, circ_ASAP2 knockdown inhibited cell viability, migration, and invasion of GC cells.
