The method has been tested on an experimental campaign of 227 pulses and the performances have been analyzed in terms of sensitivity and specificity.Nanoparticles designed for diagnosing and treating different diseases have impacted the scientific research in biomedicine, and are expected to revolutionize the clinic in the near future through a new area called nanomedicine. In the last few years, a new approach in this field has emerged the use of cell membranes for coating nanoparticles in an attempt to mimic the ability of cells to interface and interact with physiological environments. Although such functions have been replicated through synthetic techniques, many research groups are now employing naturally derived cell membranes to coat different types of nanoparticles in an attempt to improve their performance for a wide range of applications. This review summarizes the literature on nanoparticles coated with cell membranes and, more importantly, aims at inspiring and encouraging new developments to this technology in the biomedical area.The first case of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), the novel contagious disease caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), was reported in Wuhan, China in December 2019 [...].A known technique to obtain subpixel resolution by using object tracking through cross-correlation consists of interpolating the obtained correlation function and then refining peak location. Although the technique provides accurate results, peak location is usually biased toward the closest integer coordinate. This effect is known as the peak-locking error and it strongly limits this calculation technique's experimental accuracy. This error may differ depending on the scene and algorithm used to fit and interpolate the correlation peak, but in general, it may be attributed to a sampling problem and the presence of aliasing. Many studies in the literature analyze this effect in the Fourier domain. Here, we propose an alternative analysis on the spatial domain. According to our interpretation, the peak-locking error may be produced by a non-symmetrical sample distribution, thus provoking a bias in the result. According to this, the peak interpolant function, the size of the local domain and low-pass filters play a relevant role in diminishing the error. Our study explores these effects on different samples taken from the DIC Challenge database, and the results show that, in general, peak fitting with a Gaussian function on a relatively large domain provides the most accurate results.Listeria monocytogenes is a pathogen responsible for severe cases of food poisoning. Listeria spp. Selleckchem GSK864 strains occurring in soil and water environments may serve as a reservoir of resistance determinants for pathogenic L. monocytogenes strains. A large collection of Listeria spp. strains (155) isolated from natural, agricultural, and urban areas was screened for resistance to heavy metals and metalloids, and the presence of resistance determinants and extrachromosomal replicons. Of the tested strains, 35% were resistant to cadmium and 17% to arsenic. Sequence analysis of resistance plasmids isolated from strains of Listeria seeligeri and Listeria ivanovii, and the chromosome of L. seeligeri strain Sr73, identified a novel variant of the cadAC cadmium resistance efflux system, cadA6, that was functional in L. monocytogenes cells. The cadA6 cassette was detected in four Listeria species, including strains of L. monocytogenes, isolated from various countries and sources-environmental, food-associated, and clinical samples. This resistance cassette is harbored by four novel composite or non-composite transposons, which increases its potential for horizontal transmission. Since some cadAC cassettes may influence virulence and biofilm formation, it is important to monitor their presence in Listeria spp. strains inhabiting different environments.Underwater acoustic networks are widely used in survey missions and environmental monitoring. When an underwater acoustic network (UAN) is deployed in a marine region or two UANs merge, each node hardly knows the entire network and may not have a unique node ID. Therefore, a network topology discovery protocol that can complete node discovery, link discovery, and node ID assignment are necessary and important. Considering the limited node energy and long propagation delay in UANs, it is challenging to obtain the network topology with reduced overheads and a short delay in this initial network state. In this paper, an efficient topology discovery protocol (ETDP) is proposed to achieve adaptive node ID assignment and topology discovery simultaneously. To avoiding packet collision in this initial network state, ETDP controls the transmission of topology discovery (TD) packets, based on a local timer, and divides the network into different layers to make nodes transmit TD packets orderly. Exploiting the received TD packets, each node could obtain the network topology and assign its node ID independently. Simulation results show that ETDP completes network topology discovery for all nodes in the network with significantly reduced energy consumption and short delay; meanwhile, it assigns the shortest unique IDs to all nodes with reduced overheads.The COVID-19 outbreak, caused by Sars-Cov-2, was officially declared a global pandemic in February 2020, after an unexpected increase in hospitalization and mortality. When faced with this new disease, social and physical distancing and quarantine emerged as solutions to reduce virus transmission. This article examines the quality of life (QoL) of the Brazilian population's during this period of isolation, due to the COVID-19 pandemic by analyzing; physical, psychological, social, and economic aspects. An online survey was distributed from 27 May to 14 August of 2020. A total of 1859 surveys were completed. Our results indicate that Brazilians were more affected by economic and social aspects than psychological and physical. Unemployed participants and individuals who tested positive for COVID-19 presented the lowest QoL. Females showed worst QoL scores than males, but having children did not influence the score. Higher educational level was associated with a better perception of QoL. Not following social distancing guidelines presented better scores in the psychological domain than the ones following restrict or partial social distancing rules.
