The slightly better catalytic performance of the 40%Ni-CZO (x = 0.9) could be due to its smaller crystallite size (CZO = 26.83, LSCF = 35.73), rendering more access for the relative gaseous reactants. The best catalyst amongst all was 5%Ni-CZO (x = 0.9), giving 89% toluene conversion, 46% H2 yield, 71% CO selectivity, and 25% CO2 selectivity at optimum reaction temperature of 700 °C.Phosphorus excessively discharged into the water body is a primary cause of eutrophication, but phosphorus resource is limited and non-renewable. If phosphorus could be recovered from wastewaters, it can not only prevent phosphorus pollution but also achieve the recycling of phosphorus resources. This work proposed a novel strategy, Fe2+/H2O2-strengite method with the enhanced settlement, for phosphorus removal and recovery from pharmaceutical wastewater containing organic phosphorus (OP). In this scheme, OP could be converted into inorganic phosphorus (IP) in the Fe2+/H2O2 oxidation system, and then IP was recovered in the strengite system. This approach possessed the advantages of simple operation, high efficiency and valuable recovery products, besides, reducing the consumption of reagents, and hardly resulting in secondary pollution. Sixty cycles of phosphorus removal and recovery experiments were conducted, in which pH value was 4 and the initial molar ratio of Fe/P was 1.5. This process achieved a satisfactory and steady phosphorus removal performance, with soluble phosphate and total phosphorus removal efficiencies of 95.3% ± 1.7% and 91.4% ± 2.5%, respectively, and phosphorus was recovered. MPI-0479605 Possible mechanisms involved the formation of amorphous strengite (FePO4·2H2O) analogue, the adsorption of hydrous ferric oxide (HFO) to phosphorus, and the flocculation of ferric salts. Besides, the presence of quartz as carriers could enhance the settling efficiency of products. Also, via various characterizations, products included amorphous strengite analogue and goethite mixed with phosphorus. This work provided an effective method to reduce OP pollution and recover phosphorus, and supplied thoughts for the treatment of refractory pollutants and the recycling of limited resources.Population ageing and labor out-migration are increasingly challenging normative intergenerational support systems and familial welfare in parts of Asia. Extant studies look at how migration affects the material wellbeing of sending-households, but less is known about how migration shapes the emotional health of non-migrants as origin and destination conditions evolve. This study examines how labor migration among adult children shape the emotional health of elderly parents in Indonesia, and how observed implications are modified by alternative care arrangements and different migrant destinations. Using panel data from 2101 respondents age 50+ in the 2007 and 2014 Indonesia Family Life Survey, and individual-level fixed effects regressions, this study finds that offspring's migration is associated with increased parental depression, net of covariates. Depressive outcomes are abated if resulting care deficits are offset by co-residence or daily interactions with adult children, or if children move to economically lucrative international destinations; however, having a child in Malaysia - a destination characterized by high informal labor employment - increased parental depression. These findings draw attention to the non-economic implications of migration and the distress experienced specifically by parents who lack intergenerational support and who have concerns about child's wellbeing at destination.John Mervin Nooth, military surgeon, correspondent of Joseph Priestly and Benjamin Franklin, and noted inventor and scientist has been lost and found several times, through his eponymous invention the Nooth apparatus. A large glass apparatus superficially resembling a Kipp's gas generator was used originally for carbonating water during the "fizzy water" craze in the eighteenth century, only to be outdone by one Mr. Schweppes. The apparatus would later form part of the first anaesthetic equipment used in surgery, some twenty years after Nooth apparatus ceased to be made. The now part-Nooth apparatus / anaesthetiser would then, too, be forgotten again with the advent of the use of nitrous oxide. The Nooth apparatus in the Dublin City University Science Archive was found in a glassware dump in 2000 by the author, and subsequently cleaned, and restored in 2017. It is currently on display, but it is also used, with slight modification, as a gas generator for the undergraduate teaching of trainee teachers with the lesson "never throw anything away."
The method of drug delivery directly into the cochlea with an implantable pump connected to a CI electrode array ensures long-term delivery and effective dose control, and also provides the possibility to use different drugs. The objective is to develop a model of inner ear pharmacokinetics of an implanted cochlea, with the delivery of FITC-Dextran, in the non-human primate model.
A preclinical cochlear electrode array (CI Electrode Array HL14DD, manufactured by Cochlear Ltd.) attached to an implantable peristaltic pump filled with FITC-Dextran was implanted unilaterally in a total of 15 Macaca fascicularis (Mf). Three groups were created (5 Mf in each group), according to three different drug delivery times 2 hours, 24 hours and 7 days. Perilymph (10 samples, 1μL each) was sampled from the apex of the cochlea and measured immediately after extraction with a spectrofluorometer. After scarifying the specimens, x-Rays and histological analysis were performed.
Surgery, sampling and histological analysis werode array is feasible in Mf. An infusion time ranging from 2 to 24 hours is required to reach a maximum concentration peak at the apex. It establishes then an even concentration profile from base to apex that is maintained throughout the infusion time in Mf. Flow mechanisms during injection and during sampling that may explain such findings may involve cochlear aqueduct flow as well as the possible existence of substance exchange from scala tympani to extracellular spaces, such as the modiolar space or the endolymphatic sinus, acting as a substance reservoir to maintain a relatively flat concentration profile from base to apex during sampling. Leveraging the learnings achieved by experimentation in rodent models, we can move to experiment in non-human primate with the aim of achieving a useful model that provides transferrable data to human pharmacokinetics. Thus, it may broaden clinical and therapeutic approaches to inner ear diseases.
