Background Soil ecosystems consist of complex interactions between biological communities and physico-chemical variables, all of which contribute to the overall quality of soils. Despite this, changes in bacterial communities are ignored by most soil monitoring programs, which are crucial to ensure the sustainability of land management practices. We applied 16S rRNA gene sequencing to determine the bacterial community composition of over 3000 soil samples from 606 sites in New Zealand. Sites were classified as indigenous forests, exotic forest plantations, horticulture, or pastoral grasslands; soil physico-chemical variables related to soil quality were also collected. The composition of soil bacterial communities was then used to predict the land use and soil physico-chemical variables of each site. Results Soil bacterial community composition was strongly linked to land use, to the extent where it could correctly determine the type of land use with 85% accuracy. Despite the inherent variation introduced by uality. Data collection was carried out 7 to 30 days after patients' hospital discharge from June to August 2019. Understanding these data can contribute to improving quality of care transitions and avoiding hospital readmissions. Data description This data set encompasses 213 cancer patients characterized by the follow variables gender, age range, place of residence, race, marital status, schooling, paid work activity, type of treatment, cancer staging, metastasis, comorbidities, main complaint, main complaint grouped as, continuing medication, diagnosis, diagnosis grouped as, cancer type, year of diagnosis, oncology treatment, first hospitalization, readmission in the last 30 days, number of hospitalizations in the last 30 days, readmission in the last 6 months, number of hospitalizations in the last 6 months, readmission in the last year, number of hospitalizations in the last year and the questions 1-15 from CTM 15-Brazil.Background Fishermen and boatmen are a population at-risk for contracting schistosomiasis due to their high frequency of water contact in endemic areas of schistosomiasis in the People's Republic of China (P. R. China). To develop specific interventions towards this population, the present study was designed to assess the knowledge, attitudes and practices (KAPs) towards schistosomiasis of fishermen and boatmen, and to identify the risk factors associated with schistosome infection using a molecular technique in a selected area of Hunan Province in P. R. China. Methods A cross sectional survey was conducted in the Dongting Lake Basin of Yueyang County, Hunan Province. A total of 601 fishermen and boatmen were interviewed between October and November 2017. Information regarding sociodemographic details and KAPs towards schistosomiasis were collected using a standardized questionnaire. Fecal samples of participants were collected and tested by polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Logistic regression analysis was coschistosomiasis in this population group. Chemotherapy, and health education encouraging behavior change in combination with other integrated approaches to decrease the transmission risk in environments should be improved. Background PTEN, a syndromic autism spectrum disorder (ASD) risk gene, is mutated in approximately 10% of macrocephalic ASD cases. Despite the described genetic association between PTEN and ASD and ensuing studies, we continue to have a limited understanding of how PTEN disruption drives ASD pathogenesis and maintenance. Methods We derived neural stem cells (NSCs) from the dentate gyrus (DG) of Ptenm3m4 mice, a model that recapitulates PTEN-ASD phenotypes. We subsequently characterized the expression of stemness factors, proliferation, and differentiation of neurons and glia in Ptenm3m4 NSCs using immunofluorescent and immunoblotting approaches. We also measured Creb phosphorylation by Western blot analysis and expression of Creb-regulated genes with qRT-PCR. Results The m3m4 mutation decreases Pten localization to the nucleus and its global expression over time. Ptenm3m4 NSCs exhibit persistent stemness characteristics associated with increased proliferation and a resistance to neuronal maturation during difestrain neurons to a more progenitor-like state may be an important feature contributing to PTEN-ASD pathogenesis. Background Total hip arthroplasty (THA) is one of the most successful orthopedic surgeries. There are many common surgical approaches for THA. The direct anterior approach (DAA) and posterolateral approach (PLA) were compared, leading to controversial results. Methods We report on a prospective randomized study which compared the changes of perioperative hemoglobin (Hb), the Harris hip score (HHS) and a visual analog scale (VAS) pain score following THA using DAA or PLA. A total of 130 participants were randomly divided into two groups (65 DAA versus 65 PLA). Nintedanib price Perioperative ΔHb and other clinical outcomes were recorded. Results A total of 130 participants completed follow-up, while 14 patients were not recorded in blood outcomes due to blood transfusions and complications. The average Hb decrease immediately after surgery in the DAA group was greater than that in the PLA group (21.1 versus 15.8 g/L, P less then .001). However, post-operative Hb descent velocity was slower in the DAA group, and the lowest point was reached earlier. No significant differences in ΔHb levels could be observed after 1 month in the two groups. When compared with the PLA group, the DAA group had a shorter incision (9.1 versus 13.5 cm, P less then .001) and shorter hospital stay (4.2 versus 4.7 days, P = .004). However, the operation time of the DAA group was longer (88.0 versus 66.8 min, P less then .001). The DAA group had a better HHS and VAS pain score at 6 weeks post-surgery. However, no significant differences were observed at later time points. Conclusion We concluded that DAA performed better on enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) than PLA in THA, while both DAA and PLA could result in a positive, similar result after 3 months. Trial registration The study was registered by the Chinese Clinical Trial Registry (ChiCTR1900020770, 19 January 2019).
