Whole blood, swabs, and tissue samples were screened for Brucella spp. DNA by PCR. FIIN-2 mw Samples with positive PCR results were cultured for Brucella spp. isolation. This study is the first report of Brucella spp. DNA detection in cetaceans in the state of Pernambuco, and it highlights the importance of conducting systematic monitoring for the presence of Brucella infection in marine mammals along the Brazilian coast, especially in the northeast region, where several cases have been reported.Solid organ transplant recipients might be at greater risk for acquisition and mortality because of SARS-CoV-2. There are no data regarding SARS-CoV-2 seroprevalence among liver transplant (LT) recipients, and whether it is different from that of the general population or other immunosuppressed groups. We evaluated the prevalence of IgG SARS-CoV-2 antibodies among LT recipients to estimate the frequency of asymptomatic SARS-CoV-2 infection using serological assays in our outpatient clinic. We conducted a cross-sectional analysis from 10 May to 26 October 2020 of all adult (>18 years) LT recipients that underwent a routine laboratory test for the outpatient clinic follow-up at the Hospital Universitari Vall d'Hebron (Barcelona) in which we included serological testing for SARS-CoV-2. Nine out of 294 LT recipients (3.1%) tested positive for anti-SARS-CoV-2 IgG antibodies. Five of them (55.5%) had suffered clinically symptomatic SARS-CoV-2 infection confirmed by RT-PCR, four (44.4%) had presented compatible symptoms but without microbiological confirmation and only one patient (1/9, 11.1%) tested positive without any previous symptom. SARS-CoV-2 seroprevalence among LT recipients in an area highly affected by the pandemic is lower than in the general population in the same area. These results render the possibility of asymptomatic infection in LT recipients very unlikely.Tilapia culture is a very promising industry within the aquaculture sector. However, disease outbreaks have continued to threaten the industry, causing serious economic losses among the producers. Streptococcosis has become the major bacterial disease affecting tilapia production in most regions of the world. To combat the disease and minimize its economic impact on fish producers, numerous preventive and control measures have been developed and reported over the years. This paper aims to systematically review the measures that could be used to manage the disease outbreaks and maintain fish health based on previously published scientific studies. Although numerous measures currently available have been highlighted, it is far better for the producers to maximize the preventive measures for management to be economically feasible. Among the currently available preventive measures, the use of vaccines has been shown to have the most promise, while the use of herbs has been demonstrated to be a more sustainable and economically affordable control measure. However, there are still a number of important gaps in existing literature that require further investigation. Overall, significant progress has been made in preventing and controlling streptococcosis in tilapia although, no single effective measure has been identified. Therefore, a combination of these measures may provide a more effective result.
Bullous amyloidosis is a rare disease in humans that has not been described in a veterinary species in the peer-reviewed literature. The human disease is characterised by haemorrhagic vesicles and bullae on the skin and mucosae, which form due to amyloid deposition.

Investigations involved haematological evaluation, chemistry profiles, gastroscopy and serum protein electrophoresis, and, postmortem, histopathological evaluation, Congo-red staining and transmission electron microscopy (TEM).
Haemorrhagic vesicles and bullae occurred on the mucosa of the oral cavity, lips, oesophagus and stomach, and much less the muzzle, face and mucocutaneous areas of the perineum, where scarring was evident. Histopathological evaluation and Congo-red staining confirmed the presence of amyloid deposits in dermis and submucosa, in association with vesicle and bulla formation, consistent with bullous amyloidosis. TEM confirmed amyloid fibril deposition in the dermis and along the basement membrane zone. Clefts occurred in the superficial dermis and submucosa, which explained haemorrhage and scarring. The presence of a polyclonal gammopathy and the rapid abolishment of Congo-red staining with performate pretreatment supported serum amyloid A and secondary amyloidosis.

Tumor-microenvironment-activatable agents provide useful tools for PTT, but their photothermal conversion capacities vary and cannot be evaluated in vivo; thus, a general PTT prescription does not work with individual activatable agents. Here, glutathione (GSH)-activatable nanocomposites, silicomolybdate-functionalized NaLuF4 Yb,Er@NaLuF4 @NaLuF4 Nd are prepared, for customized PTT of subcutaneous orthotopic cancer. By simultaneously determining intratumoral GSH concentration and the amount of accumulated agent using multiple orthogonal luminescent emissions of nanocomposites, near-infrared absorbance of photothermal conversion agents is evaluated in vivo, based on the optimized irradiating prescriptions (irradiating power density and time) established. This allows customized PTT of each individual case with high efficacy and viability. This work also includes a method for investigating individual intratumoral variation, and the development of the next generation of customized nanomedicine for efficacious PTT of subcutaneous orthotopic cancer.
Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is marked by the excessive accumulation of extracellular matrix, which participates in a variety of chronic diseases or injuries and seriously threatens human health. Due to the side effects of clinical drugs, there is still a need to develop novel and less toxic drugs to treat pulmonary fibrosis.
SKLB-YTH-60 was developed through computer-aided drug design, de novo synthesis and high-throughput screening. We employed the bleomycin (BLM)-induced lung fibrosis animal models and used TGF-β
to induce the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) of A549 cells in vitro. Meanwhile, the protein expression of collagen I and the α-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA), E-cadherin, p-FGFR1, p-PLCγ, p-Smad2/3 and p-Erk1/2 was detected by western blot.
YTH-60 has obvious anti-proliferative activity on fibroblasts and A549 cells. Moreover, YTH-60 could impair the EMT of A549 cells and suppressed fibrosis by inhibiting FGFR and TGF-β/Smad-dependent pathways. Intraperitoneal administration of preventive YTH-60 could significantly reduce the degree of fibrosis in mice and regulate the imbalance of the immune microenvironment. In addition, we observed that therapeutic YTH-60 treatment attenuated fibrotic changes in mice during the period of fibrosis. Importantly, YTH-60 has shown an acceptable oral bioavailability (F=17.86%) and appropriate eliminated half-life time (T
=8.03hours).
Taken together, these preclinical evaluations suggested that YTH-60 could be a promising drug candidate for treating IPF.

The role of miR-626 in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) was investigated by targeting RASSF4.
The miR-626 and RASSF4 expression was detected in normal oral mucosa or OSCC tissues and OSCC or normal cells. The methylation status of RASSF4 was analyzed using methylation-specific polymerase chain reaction (PCR). The cytoplasmic/nuclear ratios (C/N ratios) targeted by miR-626 were examined using microarray, followed by a dual-luciferase reporter assay. The subcellular localization of RASSF4 and miR-626 in OSCC cells was determined using RNA fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) and immunocytochemistry (ICC), respectively. Ca9-22 and HSC2 cells were divided into mock, inhibitor NC, miR-626 inhibitor, scramble, RASSF4 and miR-626 mimic+RASSF4groups, and then CCK-8, Annexin V-FITC/PI, wound healing, Transwell, qRT-PCR and western blotting assays were performed.
OSCC tissues and cells had increased miR-626 expression and decreased RASSF4 expression. Patients with RASSF4 methylation had lower RASSF4 expression than those without methylation. In addition, a negative correlation between miR-626 and RASSF4 was found in OSCC tissues, both of which were correlated with the pathological grade, pathological stage, lymph node metastasis and patient prognosis. MiR-626 targeted RASSF4 in OSCC cells. Overexpressed RASSF4 inhibited the proliferation, invasion, migration and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) of OSCC cells, promoted cell apoptosis, and blocked the Wnt/β-Catenin pathway, which was reversed by miR-626 overexpression.

The novel coronavirus can survive in aerosol for extended periods, and its interaction with other viral communities can cause additional virulence and infectivity. This baseline study reports concentrations of SARS-CoV-2, other respiratory viruses, and pathogenic bacteria in the indoor air from three major hospitals (Sheikh Jaber, Mubarak Al-Kabeer, and Al-Amiri) in Kuwait dealing with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients. The indoor aerosol samples showed 12-99 copies of SARS-CoV-2 per m3 of air. Two non-SARS-coronavirus (strain HKU1 and NL63), respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), and human bocavirus, human rhinoviruses, Influenza B (FluB), and human enteroviruses were also detected in COVID-positive areas of Mubarak Al Kabeer hospital (MKH). Pathogenic bacteria such as Mycoplasma pneumonia, Streptococcus pneumonia and, Haemophilus influenza were also found in the hospital aerosols.
