Rural amenity migration, or the relocation for quality of life purposes as opposed to monetary enhancement, has been occurring for decades and has been particularly pronounced in the American West where the phenomenon peaked in the 1990s. Researchers have illustrated that some places are more attractive for migrants than others and that certain regional amenities hold considerable influence on where migrants relocate. Increased migration levels typically result in increased economic growth indicators, making amenity migration an attractive rural development strategy. But comprehensive econometric analysis focused on amenity migration in the American West has been lacking. To address this, we conducted an econometric analysis of attributes that influenced migration to rural Western counties from 1980 to 2010. Over 20 potential amenity supply categories were collated for 356 rural counties from 11 Western states, with a focus on public lands. TDM1 Descriptive statistics and OLS regressions were estimated and interpreted. Traditional amenities of climate, water area, and regional access were highly associated with migration levels, while designated natural amenities of Wilderness and National Monuments were the most influential public lands for migration to rural Western counties. Farming and oil and gas dependency were negatively associated with migration levels. Increasing the amount of protected areas, and branding campaigns based on natural amenities, can be a critical development strategy for rural communities.In bacteria, the truncated forms of mRNAs, which usually lack a stop codon, are occasionally generated by premature termination of gene transcription and/or endo- or exonucleolytic cleavage events. Ribosomes proceeding on these molecules stall at the 3' end of the chain and are rescued by a widely distributed mechanism known as trans-translation, which includes two essential elements, ssrA RNA (a special RNA) and SmpB (a small protein). Through this mechanism, the polypeptides translated from truncated mRNAs are marked by a short peptide, known as SsrA tag, at their C-termini and directed to the specific endogenous proteases for C-terminal proteolysis. Based on the deep understanding of the SsrA tagging and degradation mechanisms, recently a series of SsrA-based genetic tools have been developed for gene regulation on the level of post-translation. They are successfully applied for controllable regulation of biological circuits in bacteria. In the present article, we systematically summarize the history, structural characteristics, and functional mechanisms of the SsrA tagging and degrading machineries, as well as their technical uses and limitations.Key Points• SsrA system plays an important role in ribosome rescue in bacteria.• SsrA-based genetic tools are useful for controlling protein levels and activities.Aminopeptidases (EC 3.4.11.) belongs to exoprotease family, which can catalyze the cleavage of peptide bond which connects the N-terminal amino acid to the penultimate residue in a protein. Aminopeptidases catalyze the process of removal of the N-terminal amino acids of target substrates by sequential cleavage of one amino acid residue at a time. Microbial aminopeptidase are of great acceptance as industrial enzymes with varying applications in food and pharma industry since these enzymes possess unique characteristics than aminopeptidases from other sources. This review describes the various applications of microbial aminopeptidases in different industrial sectors. These enzymes are widely used in food industry as a debittering agent as well as in the preparation of protein hydrolysates. In baking, brewing, and cheese making aminopeptidases are extensively used for removing the bitterness of peptides. The inhibitors of these enzymes are found great clinical applications against various diseases such as cancer, diabetes, and viral infections. Aminopeptidases are widely used for the synthesis of biopeptides and amino acids, and found to be efficient than chemical synthesis. These enzymes are capable of hydrolyzing organophosphate compounds, thus having biological as well as environmental significance.Key Points• Cleaves the amino-terminal amino acid residues from proteins and peptides.• Microbial aminopeptidase are of great acceptance as both therapeutic and industrial enzyme.• Review describes the potential applications of microbial aminopeptidases.AIM OF THE STUDY To compare the outcomes after computer-assisted peri-acetabular osteotomy (PAO) and conventional PAO performed for hip dysplasia (DDH). METHODS Ninety-one patients (98 hips) were enrolled in this study. In each case, DDH was treated with either conventional PAO, in which the angle and direction of the osteotomy was determined by intra-operative X-ray examination, or with computer-assisted PAO, which used the 3D navigation system. Forty hips underwent conventional PAO and 58 hips underwent computer-assisted PAO. RESULTS Japanese Orthopaedic Association hip scores improved significantly from 70.0 points pre-operatively to 90.7 points post-operatively in patients with conventional PAO, and from 74.5 points pre-operatively to 94.2 points post-operatively in patients with computer-assisted PAO. In all patients with computer-assisted PAO, the post-operative AHI and VCA angle were within the radiographic target zone. Some patients with conventional PAO had post-operative AHI and VCA angle outside of the target zone. We performed total hip arthroplasty (THA) on five of the 98 PAO hips (5.1%) after an average follow-up period of 5.4 years. None of 58 hips (0%) with computer-assisted PAO was revised. DISCUSSION Computer-assisted PAO enabled intra-operative confirmation of osteotomy sites, and the position of the osteotomized bone fragment could be confirmed in real time. Adequate anterior and lateral coverage of the femoral head in patients with computer-assisted PAO resulted in no need for early conversion to THA, in contrast to conventional PAO. CONCLUSION Computer-assisted PAO not only improved accuracy and safety but also achieved sufficient anterior and lateral displacement to prevent the progression of DDH.
