No attenuation/fluctuation of the electrical signals is observed for ≈10 000 continuous working cycles. This study may offer a new design concept for progressively but spontaneously constructing novel multiple self-adaptive complex inorganic/polymer hybrids that promise applications in the next generation of self-powered autonomous optoelectronic devices. © 2020 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim. Many colonial marine animals care for embryos by brooding them on or in their bodies. For brooding to occur, features of the animals must allow it, and brooding must be at least as advantageous as releasing gametes or zygotes. Shared features of diverse colonial brooders are suspension feeding and a body composed of small modules that are indefinitely repeated and can function semi-autonomously, such as polyps or zooids. Suspension feeding permits capture of sperm for fertilization of ova that are retained by the parent. Distribution of broods among numerous small polyps, zooids, or other small modules facilitates supply of oxygen to embryos that are retained and protected by the parent. Brooding increases survival of offspring, controls dispersal, and can provide other developmental advantages. Colonial ascidians, pterobranch hemichordates, and entoprocts brood; most bryozoans and many colonial cnidarians brood. An unanswered question is why so many colonial anthozoans do not brood. Sponges share with colonies capacities for capturing sperm and separating numerous retained embryos yet many do not brood. Hypotheses for nonbrooding by colonies and sponges necessarily must apply to particular taxa. Few have been tested. We examined the language input of parents of infants at high and low familial risk for autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and investigated reciprocal associations between parent input and child language skills in the first 2 years of life. Parent-infant dyads (high-risk n = 53; low-risk n = 33), 19 of whom included an infant later diagnosed with ASD, were videotaped during free play interactions at 12, 18, and 24 months. Measures of parent input were derived from parent-child interactions. Children's language skills were assessed using the Mullen Scales of Early Learning at 12, 18, and 24 months. Results suggested that (a) parents of high- and low-risk infants produced similar word tokens, word types, and proportions of contingent verbal responses, but parents of high-risk infants used shorter mean length of utterances (MLU) than parents of low-risk infants at 18 and 24 months; (b) parents' MLU at 18 months was positively associated with their infants' language at the subsequent visit after 6 months, regardless o that parents and children collectively shape the early language environment. © 2020 International Society for Autism Research, Wiley Periodicals, Inc.Animals' perception and behavior involve integration of multiple sensory modalities. Caenorhabditis elegans is a useful model for studying multimodal sensory integration, as it has well-characterized neuronal circuits in a relatively simple nervous system. However, most studies based on functional imaging have only been conducted on single modal stimuli, because well-controlled multimodal experiments for C. elegans are technically difficult. For instance, no single systems currently deliver precise stimuli with spatial, temporal, and intensity control, despite prior hypotheses that interneurons do integrate these sensory inputs to control behavior. Here, a microfluidic platform that can easily deliver spatially and temporally controlled combination stimuli to C. elegans is presented. With this platform, both sensory and interneuron activity is measured in response to mechanical and chemical stimulations in a quantitative and high-throughput manner. It is found that the activity of command interneuron PVC can be modulated by prior stimulation both within the same and across different modalities. The roles of monoaminergic and peptidergic signaling are further examined on the process of multimodal integration through PVC activity. The approach exemplified here is envisioned to be broadly applicable in different contexts to elucidate underlying mechanisms and identify genes affecting multisensory integration. © 2020 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. METHODS This prospective non-randomized study included 37 eyes of 20 patients who underwent SMILE (G-S) and 39 eyes of 20 patients who underwent ICL V4c implantation (G-V). Spherical equivalent (SE), uncorrected distance visual acuity, corrected distance visual acuity, retinal image quality and intraocular scattering were evaluated at one year after surgery. Each model was adjusted for age, gender, eye and preoperative SE during treatment. RESULTS At the one-year follow-up, G-S and G-V showed similar safety index (1.13 ± 0.13 and 1.11 ± 0.15, respectively) and efficacy index (1.05 ± 0.14 and 1.06 ± 0.15, respectively). All 21 eyes with Toric ICL (TICL) had a postoperative astigmatism of ≤0.5 dioptres (D), while the astigmatism was ≤0.5 D in all G-S eyes. Thirty-six G-S eyes (97%) and 35 G-V eyes (90%) were within ± 0.
