To assess the attitudes, practices and other contributing factors to patient safety among chiropractors.
In addition to obtaining socio-demographic and practitioner/practice characteristics, we utilized the Safety, Communication, Operational Reliability, and Engagement (SCORE) questionnaire. To identify variables contributing to improved safety climate and lower burnout, we performed a random forest analysis.
A convenience sample of 154 chiropractor responders (Female=115; Male=39) comprised our study population. The majority were between 26 and 35 years of age with an average practice experience of 11.1 years. The variables of importance predictive for a safety climate were participating in decision making, teamwork, local leadership and improvement readiness. For burnout, workload, growth opportunities, teamwork climate, safety climate and work-life balance were highly influential.

This qualitative descriptive study examined men's perceptions of yoga, and identified barriers and possible facilitators for participation. Twenty-one non-yoga participant men, 18-60 years old, and living in Queensland, Australia, were interviewed. Two major barriers were identified using thematic analysis (1) preference for other forms of physical activity, and (2) gender-related perceptions and pressures (i.e., perception of yoga as feminine, and presence of "bloke" culture and masculine ideals in society). Potential facilitators included (1) acceptability of yoga among men, (2) providing brief information sessions, and (3) men-only classes. The non-competitive nature of yoga, in addition to being predominantly undertaken by women, makes it less appealing for men living in Australia. These barriers need to be considered if yoga is to be promoted as an option for men, particularly those not drawn to traditional sports or exercise.
Limited information is available regarding barriers to breastfeeding during the COVID-19 lockdown.
This study was designed as a non-concurrent case-control study on breastfeeding initiation practices, defined according to WHO, in women giving birth during lockdown, between March 8 and May 18, 2020, in the COVID-19 'hotspot' in Northeastern Italy (study group), with an antecedent puerperae-matched group (control group). Exclusive, complementary, and formula feeding practices were collected from maternal charts at hospital discharge, on the second day post-partum, when puerperae filled out the Edinburg Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS).
The COVID-19 study group presented significantly lower exclusive breastfeeding rates than the control group who members gave birth the previous year (-15%, p=0.003), as a consequence of the significantly higher prevalence of complementary feeding practices in the former (+20%, p=0.002). Conversely, the COVID-19 study group showed significantly higher EPDS scores (8.03±4.88 vs. 8.03±4.88, p<0.005) and higher anhedonia (0.56±0.65 vs. 0.18±0.38, p<0.001) and depression (0.62±0.60 vs. 0.39±0.44, <0.001) subscale scores. In the general linear model analysis, women practicing exclusive breastfeeding showed significantly lower EPDS scores in comparison with those practicing complementary (p=0.003) and formula feedings (p=0.001). Furthermore, the highest EPDS scores were observed in women adopting formula feeding, mainly during the COVID-19 quarantine (p=0.019).
This study indicates that hospital containment measures adopted during lockdown in the 'hotspot' COVID-19 epidemic area of Northeastern Italy have a detrimental effect on maternal emotions and on breastfeeding exclusivity practices.
This study indicates that hospital containment measures adopted during lockdown in the 'hotspot' COVID-19 epidemic area of Northeastern Italy have a detrimental effect on maternal emotions and on breastfeeding exclusivity practices.The aim of this study was to characterize the biological properties of a novel aspartic protease-1 from Trichinella spiralis (TsASP1) and evaluate its potential in inducing immune response. TsASP1 gene was cloned and expressed in Escherichia coli BL21 (DE3). On Western blotting analysis with anti-rTsASP1 serum, native TsASP1 was detected in various T. spiralis phases other than newborn larvae (NBL). qPCR results showed that TsASP1 transcription was the highest in intestinal infective larvae (IIL) and the lowest in the NBL stage. Immunofluorescence test result shows that native TsASP1 was principally localized in stichosome, muscle cells of muscle larvae (ML) and IIL, and surrounded intrauterine embryos in female adult worms (AW). After silencing TsASP1 gene of the ML by siRNA, the worm development was significantly inhibited, showed by shorter AW and more wrinkles and longitudinal crack on epicuticle of AW on scanning electron microscopy; the AW and ML burdens were reduced by 41.82 and 56.36% respectively, compared with the control siRNA or PBS group (P less then 0.001). Immunization of mice with rTsASP1 elicited an evident antibody response (serum IgG, IgG1/IgG2a and enteral sIgA), and systemic (spleen) and intestinal local mucosal (mesenteric lymph node) cellular immune response, demonstrated by a prominent elevation of IFN-γ and IL-4. The results suggested TsASP1 participated in T. spiralis development and survival in host, and immunization of mice with rTsASP1 induced systemic/intestinal local mucosal humoral and cellular immune response against Trichinella.
Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is increasingly being recognized in the pediatric population, therefore, the search for non-invasive parameters to predict progression of NAFLD is of great interest. The aim of this study was to assess serum concentration of sCD36 in children with obesity and to determine its diagnostic value in pediatric NAFLD.
The study group consisted of 50 children with obesity aged 8-17.5 years, admitted to our Department because of suspected liver pathology. selleck screening library Selected liver diseases were excluded in the examined group. Anthropometry, laboratory tests (including the concentration of sCD36) and liver ultrasound, were performed in all subjects.
NAFLD was confirmed in 16 out of 50 patients with obesity. There was significantly higher activity of ALT, AST, GGT, and increased waist-hip ratio WHR in individuals with NAFLD in comparison to non-hepatopathic children with obesity. We did not find a significant difference between sCD36 concentration in patients with obesity and NAFLD and non-hepathopathic patients with obesity.
