Unfortunately, the cylinder pressure under the head is a lot, and has been found to stretch the stock bolts, leading to an eventual blown head gasket. Reportedly, this happens most often with modified engines, but has happened with stock engines as well. It put Ford back into the diesel truck power wars, and its EGR system satisfied emissions regulations. The variable geometry turbo was also great, allowing for hard power early on and throughout the powerband.
The aFe POWER D.A.S. PLUS Induction system for Ford F-150 combines a Dynamic Air Scoop (D.A.S.) and a high-performance aFe POWER drop-in Pro DRY S filter. Bruno says it has zero physical compression, if the ex valves were stuck closed he'd still have compression. I'm thinking something more sinister, sounds like the rt VC is coming off for a look.
The kit fits all body styles of Ford Superduty, they come equipped with extra pipes and clamps for longer or shorter wheelbase trucks. Loudness can be a pro or a con depending on your taste and application. Sometimes you just need or want exhaust that is loud. Straight pipes can usually deliver loudness, but at the price of good sound quality.
Rough sound and potential legal issues easily outweigh the fact that straight pipes are by default the cheapest exhaust option. Whereas quality performance mufflers cost at least $80, straight pipes can cost as little as $20 plus installation. If you’re loyal to the Blue Oval, the Navistar/Ford 7.3-liter Power Stroke is a legendary engine. It’s been over two decades since the last 7.3 was built, yet enthusiasts continue to pay tens of thousands to own an example of one of greatest diesel engines of all time.
I feel like I get asked this question every day, so it’s obviously something I should take a few minutes to write down. We will need you to record a datalog so we can revise & fine-tune the maps for you. This allows ambient air to diffuse the heated gas, eliminating the risk of melting a trailer, which has been reported by many owners. The large 6.5"x7.5" Tip also provides a reduction in exhaust temperature two feet behind the tip during regen. If the pipe is out of stock, we accept back orders, but keep in mind your order may take a few weeks to ship.
Tuner Required – Removal of the DPF, CAT, SCR, and/or DOC involves removing and eliminating emission related sensors. A DPF delete capable tuner is required to prevent any check engine light or diagnostic trouble codes from setting. If you don’t already have a DPF delete capable tuner we recommend the Ez lynk here. Most customers will see their parts within 3-5 business days. We will primarily ship with Purolator ground & DHL Express to ensure the fastest shipping possible. Stand out from the crowd with a performance exhaust system that sounds great.
This menu will now display products relevant to your selected vehicle. Installing our exhaust system typically takes about 1 hour with basic hand tools, and can be done on the ground of your driveway or garage. The process is quicker if you have access to an automotive-style lift. Just a heads up, deleting the DPF system and or altering the emissions system on a vehicle driven on tax-paid roads is a federal crime to the vehicle owner and any shop that works on the vehicle.
Like anything else, the best course of action regarding your equipment is up to you. Modifications of any kind to the newest of tractors or trucks will almost certainly void your warranty, which is one of the reasons to purchase new machinery in the first place. In good news, though, either he or the first owner put on the coolant filtration system, and I believe the head studs have been replaced with the ARP units.
However, if you receive a faulty product or the wrong product, we will send you a replacement. Exhaust Material – Available in aluminized steel or T-409 stainless steel. Aluminized steel is our most popular but will eventually accumulate surface rust. So if your testing to see if you actually got stainless; beware that a magnet will still stick to it. We suggest the stainless upgrade if you regularly operate your truck on salted winter roads.
Standard shipping (INCLUDED) will take 6-8 business days. Fuel Mileage – Expect to see a significant increase in fuel mileage. If your DPF is plugged up your probably averaging about mpg.
I have a friend with a rather crusty F-350 with the 7.3 Navistar that he used to use to haul a horse trailer but now is the Saturday “go to Home Depot” truck. He says that almost weekly he is stopped by people offering him money on the spot for his truck. Was having almost as bad of a time with theirs as Ford was with the Power Shift around the same time and earlier, but the cult of VAG can’t admit that their products have any problems.
For these cars, it’s common to delete one or more sets of resonators and replace them with straight pipe. Let me leave you with one parting thought, regardless of your preference to exhaust systems. Get in the habit of keeping hearing protection handy and wearing it. 6.7 powerstroke straight pipe of earmuffs placed where they are handy are cheap in comparison to thousands of dollars of hearing aids on the kitchen table. Speaking of the pickups we started with at the beginning of this column, I had an exhaust leak in one of my diesel pickups years ago. I pulled it into the shop and began the repairs but, wouldn’t you know, I needed a part from town and the truck was the only available vehicle that day.
That being said, that doesn’t mean there isn’t a difference in these systems. We proudly carry Flo~Pro because they only use Torca lapjoint style clamps in all their kits whereas most everyone else uses hanger clamps that squish the pipe. Not to mention the contour bent hangers mean 6” to 7” of weld on the hangers versus most exhaust system companies 1”. In our experience it makes a world of difference for getting the most out of your exhaust system no matter if you’re on a budget build or all out competition, FloPro has never let us down.
Diesel truck fans have a list of engines often considered to be the greatest of all time. Fans of Ford, Chevrolet, and Dodge all have their faves, and that’s not even getting into the mills from outside of America. The 28th Scheid Diesel Extravaganza is held on August 23-24, 2024 at Wagler Motorsports Park in Lyons, IN. AFe POWER will be attending as a vendor and look forward to meeting everyone there with new exciting products to show for all your diesel needs and wants.
The problem is, straight pipes are usually obnoxious in their loudness. Your go-to spot for information on the exhaust system, as well as mufflers, catalytic converters, pipes and sensors. Then one day I ran it down to almost E, truck never died, but a few days later I needed 6 injectors.
Just yards from where I write this, I have two tractors sitting in the shed that are fitted with straight pipes instead of mufflers. I also have a few more “shed mates” (tractors are like potato chips … one just won’t satisfy) I wouldn’t operate without a muffler. My brother pick up a used dually with the 6.0 on the cheap.
The aFe product line includes over 3,000 product applications, which are meticulously tested and manufactured in Corona, California. We are waiting for an install kit as well and NOBODY wants to give one up! One of the parts in the kit has an engineering/part number change. When time permits(shop very busy this week)I am going to remove the VC.
It turns out the injectors are lubricated by the fuel… to the point that running it low, was enough to trash them. No one really explained what happened, so a few months later the same thing happened. That was a couple more thousand, I don’t even remember, but by the time I finished with that I was ready to be done with the truck. I was starting to measure my weekly operating costs by the maintenance bills instead of the fuel bills. I wish I would have bought a slightly older truck with the 7.3. This information was taken from an affidavit by one of Ford’s own officials in a lawsuit it filed against Navistar.
The difference between a muffler and a straight pipe once again will come down to preference. You’re not going to see any power gains here either, the MBRP & FLO-PRO mufflers are a perforated tube with fiberglass packed around it. These high-flow mufflers don’t reduce your flow or increase resistance but will reduce the exhaust drone and noise significantly.
Save big on that signature MBRP sound during Pick Up Your Sound. Take up to $150 off gas truck exhaust and up to $75 off diesel truck exhaust and components starting July 1st, 2024 – for a limited time only. Not only that, but virtually all places have excessive noise laws. And as we’ve already said, straight pipes are loud.
Will continue to purchase more products from here. Agree with everyone else on the couplers but for the price not that big of a deal. Paradox goes above and beyond other performance mufflers because of their Patented Tuning Fork Technology. It’s why they have such high quality sound and highly effective “drone” control.
View our technical tips to help you install, learn about and maintain your exhaust system the right way. Long periods of idling are engine killers with the DEF and ERG systems. They do need to be run hard. I was lucky enough to drive it only 20k miles before giving it to my 16yo. She fought that piece of garbage through 3 transmissions covered under warranty, before it was totaled in an unrelated accident. My Wife’s Escape was not quite 4 years old but was over 100k, so Ford told me I could pay for the $2500 complete system replacement or open a window. A $30 part on a (at the time) $25k automobile, and Ford couldn’t be bothered.
In 2003 Ford began phasing out one of the greatest truck engines of all time. The 7.3-liter Power Stroke served as a reliable workhorse for years, but now it was time for truck buyers to get more power and cleaner emissions. The 6.0-liter Power Stroke launched that year and punched out more power, but also started to punch out wallets with expensive problems. What could have been a beloved follow-up is still hated by many today, and used truck prices reflect it. But was the 6.0-liter Power Stroke really that bad?
5 years ago my mechanic who eventually became full time convinced me to leave the gas Fords for diesel Fords and said it would be a great idea to get 6.0’s because they were great trucks. As I said earlier, the 7.3-liter Power Stroke is known for relative bulletproof reliability in stock form. Tuners have also found the engine to be receptive to taking on more power, too. The aFe POWER D.A.S. PLUS induction system combines a Dynamic Air Scoop (D.A.S.) and a high-performance aFe POWER drop-in Pro DRY S filter. Together, they work seamlessly to enhance the efficiency of your factory airbox by maximizing the flow of cool ambient air throughout the system.
All items will be shipped out in 1 business day,no expedited service available. We ship our items to USA only(Does NOT include Hawaii,Alaska or Puerto Rico, PO Boxes/APO's ). Single exhaust has been the most popular choice for the last decade or so. Dual exhaust was big in the 90s but maybe it’s time for a comeback. This one is purely up to preference and what you like. The only deciding factor for some in the dual vs single exhaust debacle is a dual exhaust system can be a little more costly.
It got 18 mpg with me behind the wheel — good compared to my friend with a stock 7.3 Power Stroke that got 13 mpg on a good day. Sadly, the van was detuned compared to Super Duty trucks and made 235 HP and 440 lb-ft of torque. But it still made that glorious diesel soundtrack so I didn’t care one bit. Perhaps the biggest problem with the 6.0 and the VT 365 comes from the engine’s torque-to-yield head bolts. The bolts are a sizable 14mm, but there are only four bolts per cylinder, compared to the six bolts per cylinder found in the 7.3.
Another big positive about Paradox Performance Mufflers is that you don’t need a whole new exhaust system with them. Simply replacing your stock mufflers with Paradox mufflers is often enough to get a big boost of quality sound. If you are purposely trying to annoy your neighbors and everyone around you, then straight pipes could be for you. Trucks are probably the most common vehicles to be fully straight piped from front to back. Any vehicle can have its muffler deleted- if it has one. Walker is your one-stop exhaust shop, offering a full line of mufflers, pipes, hardware and accessories.
When you alter a vehicle's emissions system, you can not simply just remove and unplug it. A special programmer has to be bought and used to fool the computer into thinking those parts are still there and working. The four or five inch debate can come down to two important parts; 1) Do you want the lowest EGTs possible? Do you want a deeper/throater/meaner sounding truck? If yes to either of those two options, then a five inch exhaust is what you’ll want.
But here are the most common vehicles that we see with straight pipe exhaust or muffler deletes. It had 287,000 miles on its odometer and came with a stack of service paperwork. Big ticket items included four injectors replaced before I bought the van and a turbo perhaps 50,000 miles before that. The Garrett GT3782VA turbo in these engines sometimes got gunked up with corrosion and carbon, leading to sticking. Some mechanics remove the cab from above the 6.0 engine to make replacing the turbo and heads easier. Lack of easy access is another downside to these trucks.
Remove the restrictive DPF and CAT system to deliver superior horsepower and torque while offering significant improvements in fuel economy. As an old lawyer would say, “it depends.” Removing the muffler from a tractor reduces back pressure, which can result in substantial horsepower gains. The amount of your tractor’s individual power boost will depend on several factors, but the most important one is the amount of fuel and air already going through it to begin with. I have owned several fine old tractors over the years – and over the tenure of my ownership, several of them have found themselves with straight pipes.

Several loose rocker arms, loose pushrods, low pushrods(1 inch gap to rocker arms), several pushrods almost off their valves. A damaged or stuck ipn intake will cause low compression and popping from the intake BUT exhaust valves not opening will cause a more severe pop noise from my experience. The 4” exhaust system is the most popular exhaust we sell, for a good reason too. They give a great sound with little to no drone. It’s still going to bark when you get into the throttle, and when paired with a muffler it’s dulled down to a nice sound that is tolerable for diesel enthusiasts of all ages. If you’re frequently towing, like your neighbors, and don’t want to screw around with fitment issues go with a 4” exhaust system and you’ll be more than happy (your neighbors will be too). Most newer trucks come stock with a 4” from the factory, so you can easily mate up a front pipe to your factory tailpipe without any modifications.
Fixed my annoying intermittent coolant drip and now I have the peace of mind that the fitting is secured instead of just being held in by the oring tension. Had to cut one of the small holes off of the little piece with one big and two small holes in it to clear a bracket but still very impressed. About 5k miles on it since I stalled and everything it holding up well.
The nozzle then opens and 3,000 psi of fuel pressure multiplies to 21,000 psi of fuel pressure in the cylinder. Directly replace your Ford Diesel Power Stroke restrictive charge pipes with aFe POWER’s BladeRunner free-flowing, heat-resistant aluminum charge pipes. Smooth transitions in the mandrel-bent aluminum pipes decrease turbulence and minimize pressure loss, increasing horsepower and torque. Our engineers use state of the art technology to design and manufacture the highest quality performance products in the industry. Most of these trucks (other than Cummins) are limited by their downpipe either way. So, no, you’re not getting much more flow with a 5” because your 3” or 4” downpipe is restricting your entire exhaust system.
The folks in love with the General dig the 6.6-liter Duramax LBZ turbodiesel V8 for its ability to produce truckloads of power without the complications brought on by modern emissions systems. People are still paying near-new prices for these trucks even though it’s been nearly two decades since they were in production. Diameter mandrel bent main piping features a muffler delete and terminates in a Single Passenger Side Rear exit with 6in. Polished Welded-Single Wall-Angle Cut-Rolled Edge-Intercooled tips. This emissions-legal filter-back exhaust kit has been tuned to create Mild interior and Moderate exterior sound levels. Muffler deletes and straight pipe exhaust can provide a lot of loudness, but honestly not much else.
You could spend an eternity deciding which manufacturer, which downpipe, with or without a muffler and either four inch or five inch exhaust. Luckily for you, I know a “FLO PRO 4″ DOWNPIPE BACK NO MUFFLER” exhaust system is the best exhaust for that Powerstroke engine. This results in 82% less backpressure, leading to more power, throttle response, and increased fuel economy.
GM truck buyers got to enjoy 300 HP and 520 lb-ft of torque from a 6.6-liter Duramax LB7 V8. Meanwhile, Ram buyers got a 5.9-liter Cummins straight-six with 305 HP and 555 lb-ft of torque. Well, the best they got from a stock 7.3 was 275 HP and 525 lb-ft of torque, assuming a manual transmission. The Duramax trucks have a very tight fit between the cab and the engine, so a 3” full bore downpipe is the biggest you’re going to fit in there. This will certainly help performance as the factory downpipe is literally squished flat to fit.
It sounds like bulletproofing is a must if you want to send power to the heavens. Either way, it doesn’t hurt to spend some extra cash to zap known issues. Yet, my van, which was stock, still drove on its original head gaskets and even still had its emissions equipment intact.
You need low-pressure diesel fuel, a 48-volt, 20-amp coil to operate the spool valve, and high-pressure oil that hopefully isn’t blazing hot. Screw one or more of these up, and the injector can fail. At the same time, International Harvester was looking to build a diesel engine for an automaker with a lineup of pickup trucks.
We are the only business on the market currently offering this system. We intend to eventually also incorporate a lower-buck option without a polished finish. Our exhaust system speaks for itself and it will guarantee a durable, long lasting finish which will not rust. These up pipes fit perfectly, no trouble at all and look awesome. This kit works perfectly for these trucks, not too loud but also still has a good grumble. DIESELR Corp is a Performance/Repair & Accessories shop based out of Alberta Canada.
International called this engine the VT365, and it was sold with horsepower ratings as low as 175 HP to as high as 230 HP. The G2 fuel system uses high-pressure injectors developed jointly by International, Sturman Industries and Siemens Diesel Systems Technology to more efficiently manage fuel consumption. Higher injection pressure combined with four valves per cylinder increases performance and fuel economy while lowering emissions. The key to the VT 365’s increased performance, despite tighter emission controls, rests on several components. First is the Electronic Variable Response Turbocharger (EVRT), which provides improved throttle response and peak torque capability at lower rpm levels.
This is why all the Duramax exhausts are labeled as Downpipe back. Fords also can’t fit anything bigger than a 4” downpipe (unless you’re running an OBS, then you’re in 3” territory). What is the DPF and is it Worth Doing a DPF Delete? Most post-2007 diesel vehicles are equipped with a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) for emissions control.
Have to do it with only a partial cab lift as per service manager. There is nothing special about the CCV installation. Dirty Diesel Customs is a full-service performance diesel shop based in Kelowna, B.C. Canada. We do everything from Race Engines to OEM Maintenance.
Nothing looks better or lasts longer than stainless steel. The aluminized steel has a coating when scratched off will rust. But stainless steel does cost more than aluminized steel, ultimately if you can live with a rusty then you can save yourself a few bucks at checkout. There are a ton of choices when it comes to choosing an exhaust system for your Powerstroke.
With a rocket nozzle-like tip, exhaust gasses are literally sucked out of the end of the exhaust, reducing back pressure all they back up to the turbo inlet. Vehicle fitment – 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, & 2021 Ford Powerstroke 6.7 Diesel. Regular can short and long bed along with Crew cab short & long bed. Will not fit cab & chassis trucks without modification.
In theory, the 6.0 had the right ingredients to rise to stardom. The new engine had to comply with stricter emissions, but it still made more power out of the factory than its predecessor. Unfortunately, the 6.0 Power Stroke would encounter a long list of issues and give tuners even larger headaches. The 6.0 carries such a reputation today that it’s sometimes called the “6.Blow” and you can sometimes find newer trucks with the 6.0 selling for cheaper than an older truck with a 7.3.
While blown gaskets are an infamous problem with the 6.0, it’s not the only source of headaches. It’s located at the front of the lifter valley and integrated into the block itself. That’s a lot of important parts that depend on the oil cooler. By the early 2000s, diesel engines were ramping up in power, leaving the old reliable Navistar engine in the dust.
So for the sake of horsepower and turning the wife’s head (she acts like she doesn’t care – but I know better), the chrome stack stays. For me personally, my straight piping adventures were primarily on older tractors with turbocharged motors. In those cases, the turbo tends to serve as a bit of a muffler; at least I think it tones down the blare as compared to a naturally aspirated motor.
I put this together for a customer, for the millionth time, on which exhaust system is right for a 6.7 Powerstroke. I realized; why don’t I make a blog post that explains which is the best exhaust for a 6.7 Powerstroke? Then I can point all my customers to that instead of repeating myself. Diesel Particulate Filters (DPF) are cleaned through regeneration in which scorching exhaust gas temperatures can last up to 20 minutes while driving. The Monster Exhaust massive over sized tip is aimed out to the side of the truck. The stock exhaust tubing measures a mere 3.5" on the outside, compared to the Monster Exhaust's massive 5" outer diameter as such the Banks system offers a 110% greater flow area than stock.
Sure, a stock 7.3-liter doesn’t make a ton of power compared to today’s trucks, but these are engines that can last longer than the metal bodies in which they’re packaged. Aftermarket exhaust systems and mufflers can give you the sound and flow you want without the negatives that come with straight pipe exhaust. 1hr with basic hand tools done on the ground of your driveway or garage. Cutting may be be required to fit shorter wheelbase bed/cab configurations. If you don’t want to deal with the negatives that come with straight pipes and muffler deletes, you’ll need an alternative.
If you’re looking to significantly cut down the drone, without changing your exhaust note too much, we recommend checking out the FLO-PRO Twister Mufflers. They spiralize your exhaust flow with their corkscrew design, it’s designed to maintain the sound of your exhaust from the outside, but stop any drone you may have inside the cab. Exhaust MaterialOur exhaust systems are crafted from T-409 stainless steel. Unlike T-304 stainless steel, T-409 is still magnetic. If you’re testing to confirm the material, be aware that a magnet will still stick to it, which is a normal characteristic of T-409 stainless steel.
Paradox Performance Mufflers offer industry leading sound and flow, and are made in the USA. Even though this practice is common, the result is often subpar sound quality. Award-winning coverage of in-depth news and analysis to make your business more profitable.
Straight pipes can refer to muffler deletes, but they can also refer to removing everything in the exhaust system that isn’t pipe. This includes resonators and catalytic converters. The point about the cab is fitting for today’s tractors as well. Its exhaust stack, like many modern tractors, runs right up the right-side front pillar of the cab.
Removing the cap would reduce crankcase pressure and prevent the PCV from sucking up oil. I think your air filter may be restricted or your crankcase vent is flowing too much air allowing it to suck up oil. Some trucks may run into fitment issues (especially those with airbags or full-size spare) but we have found a way to stuff these into almost any truck. If you have enough beer, patience, and maybe some whiskey you will get it in. That being said, the FLO-PRO & MBRP Kits fit very well and have made their piping fit with pretty much any application.
But long lengths of straight pipe often results in “cackling”, “popping” and other undesirable sound. Well, it was the tractor we used to harvest corn grain via a mounted picker. It was oversized for that job by most standards, but it did such a great job. Running a straight pipe got rid of excess heat, which helped with the fear of catching anything on fire in the dry fodder and chaff blowing about. The old tractor I used to run the mixer wagon had a straight-piped, naturally aspirated engine. Needless to say, it woke the neighbors if I drove it out on the road.
The 5 Inch Exhaust Systems are for people who like to party (and have annoying neighbors). It’s deep, it’s droney, and it turns heads (for better or worse). These kits sound AWESOME, however, some people find them to be too much (typically it's those people in uniforms) and find the cab drone too excessive. You can always add a resonator like the FLO-PRO Twister if you want to maintain a deep sound but dull down the in-cab drone.
Chevy has an updated part so just order 6 of those with this kit and you’re golden (they were in stock at my local Chevy dealer). Because the DPF clogs up, it increases backpressure. Due to this pressure, the fuel flow is hugely disturbed and slowed down. Therefore, when you remove this filter, the fuel flows much easily and faster, increasing the overall fuel mileage.
I replaced its old muffler last year with a straight pipe (chrome, of course, to drive my wife crazy), and for the most part, I like it fine. Sadly, the 6.0’s oil cooler is known for plugging up, which has a cascading effect of allowing the oil in all impacted components to reach dangerous levels. The resulting temps can kill expensive components and cause a catastrophic failure. DrivingLine notes that around 90 percent of 6.0 EGR cooler failures start with a plugged oil cooler. The remedy to this problem is installing a coolant circuit filtration system, which should catch nasty particles before they plug the oil cooler.
Second, it is equipped with Electro-Hydraulic Generation Two (G2) fuel injection technology, which is based on a low-pressure common rail fuel system. Finally, Intuitive Shift controllers allow for smoother driving to compensate for the use of cooled Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) technology, which cuts oxides of nitrogen (NOx) emissions. As Motor Trend notes, regulations for 2003 would have required Ford to equip the aging mill with exhaust gas recirculation, which would have put the 7.3 even further behind the competition. Navistar and Ford decided that the best way forward was to build an all-new engine with the power to compete and the emissions to keep the feds happy. All of this happens with computer and electronic control, allowing for the control of injection events independent of what the crankshaft is doing. HEUI is able to provide peak pressures under a variety of conditions, helping to keep power up, fuel consumption down, and emissions down as well.
This back pressure disrupts and slows down the fuel flow, leading to reduced efficiency. Removing the DPF allows for smoother and faster fuel flow, which can enhance overall fuel mileage. If you want the loudness of straight pipes without the poor sound quality, you will almost certainly be better off with a loud performance muffler like the Paradox Hot Tamale.
Some cutting may be required to fit shorter wheelbase bed/cab configurations. The package includes clamps, hangers, and hardware, although you may need to reuse some factory hardware. A downpipe back exhaust system just means you are going to get everything from the downpipe (the pipe at the very back of the turbo) to the tailpipe (the part that sticks out the back of the truck).

As DrivingLine explains, the 7.3’s engine revved low and submitted a lot of torque to the rods. The 6.0 revs more and the rods live an easier life. Reportedly, the rods in the 6.0 are known for durability. Other than that, I agree- if the ex valves are stuck closed it will pop back strongly into the intake manifold when the intakes open. Please complete the fields below to send your friend a link to this product. Your friend will receive an email from you with a link to our site.
Several loose rocker arms, loose pushrods, low pushrods(1 inch gap to rocker arms), several rocker arms almost off their valves. Also found the rubber boot for the AFE air cleaner to engine duct was rotted at the flexible bellows, with a hole in it and gritty dirt inside next duct. This is the second AFE inlet boot that has had this issue. Don't know the root cause, but suspect the performance chip was at least partially at fault. If it's popping through the intake, that leads me to believe the exhaust valves are not opening up on that cylinder. I would say there is not excessive blow-by in that case.
On that occasion, we collected our bucket off the ground more than we care to admit.
If you want to run a full kit, it will slip in just like your factory kit without any modifications. The sound quality from straight pipes and muffler deletes is often very low, and simply cannot match the sound quality of performance mufflers. In the early 1980s, right around when the International Harvester name departed from light-duty on-road vehicles, Ford embarked on a journey for a new kind of diesel truck.
International Harvester’s roots were in the 1800s with reapers, but the company helped change farming in only 1905 with its first tractor. The famous Farmall tractor would come later in 1924. International Harvester’s colorful history includes feats such as the Cub Cadet lawn tractor, as well as light duty on-road vehicles like the Travelall, the Travelette, and the Scout. Torque increases, this TAKEDA Momentum Intake is just what the Subaru WRX has been waiting for. The sealed intake captures cool air with a large dynamic air scoop to pull in large amounts of air.
Yes when I bought them they had over 100,000 miles and now they have over 300,000 miles but the amount of crap I had to go through to keep them running was incredible. I wouldn’t wish this experience on my worst enemy. Powdered-metal connecting rods also made a return in the 6.0. These rods were panned during their short life in the 7.3, but they found a good home in the 6.0 engine.
Decades later, Gale and the team are not only innovating, patenting products, and setting the bar for aftermarket performance manufacturers, we're also sharing our secrets with the world. Our ASE Certified technicians are the best when it comes to the installation of Banks performance products. While the engines were problematic, it seemed people just kept buying them, anyway.
At Walker, it's more than peace of mind in knowing we lead the industry with unparalleled level of compliance. It's more than our precision-fit or full engine-to-tailpipe product offering, Walker sets the standards. President and founder, Gale Banks, began at age 14 with an engine teardown of his mother's '31 Ford Model A that resulted in an increase of 65 hp for a total of 105 hp.
One advantage of straight pipes is that they have very little backpressure. Straight pipes offer better flow than many popular performance mufflers. This can be helpful if you’re trying to maximize performance and fuel mileage.

Unfortunately, problems started getting reported in 2003 while these engines were still new. HEUI joins forces with six head bolts per cylinder, a Garrett turbocharger, forged connecting rods, and a fluid-to-fluid oil cooler to provide high performance and a lifespan that could outlive you. Later examples of the 7.3 got a wastegate for the turbo and an air-to-air intercooler. There was also a brief moment between 2001 and 2003 when powdered metal con-rods were used. International Harvester was even one of the first American companies to put a diesel engine in a light-duty pickup truck. 1963 through 1968 model year C-1100 to C-1300 IH trucks could be had with diesel power, making them what some call America’s first factory-built diesel-powered light-duty trucks.
Despite this testimony, Ford later denied engine problems when it was being sued over the Navistar engine. I was one of the people who wasn’t burned by this engine, but then again I didn’t own it for long and it was detuned in a van. Other people may not be so happy with their experience. It may not be the engine for you if you want to beat the daylights out of the truck or want to put down 700 HP at the wheels without some extensive work. Some searching of the web shows you can get newer 6.0-equipped trucks for a similar price to older 7.3s with more miles. Next, we have the fuel injection control module (FICM), the computer responsible for opening and closing the spool valves and thus, getting fuel to the cylinders.
The cardboard would break down over time, and the desiccant would cycle through the AC system and corrode it from the inside out. We just replaced the turbo earlier this year after its impeller decided to emulate a grenade. We were able to replace it without lifting the cab. We gambled on a remanufactured unit from a Chinese supplier, but it appears to be a legit Garrett unit and has held up so far.
The crankshaft main and rod bearing surfaces were treated to an induction-hardening process and the crankshaft itself was held in place with a plate. One key component to the 7.3-liter Power Stroke and the Navistar T444E is the HEUI system, which stands for Hydraulically Activated, Electronically Controlled Unit Injector. It’s a complicated computerized system that uses pressurized oil to fire the engine’s injectors.
