Turn Back, the band's third studio album it was an attempt to return to the classic sextet structure and an even more consistent and powerful effort with a harder edge. The more edgier sound of Turn Back was a reflection of the development of the group. The drummer Bobby Kimball's increasing ability to play was evident in the vocal delivery of Joseph Williams, who had become more confident and mature.
