Several studies emphasized the role of MBL2 gene in several infectious diseases' susceptibility, including HIV-1 infection. We aim to investigate the impact of 10 MBL2 gene polymorphisms located in the promoter, 5'UTR and exon 1 regions on HIV-1 physiopathology. The polymorphisms genotyping of 400 individuals, which 200 were HIV-1 positive patients and 200 were controls, was performed by PCR-sequencing. Our results showed that rs503037 and rs1800451 polymorphisms are associated with a high risk of HIV-1 infection susceptibility while rs7096206 and rs11003123 showed a protective effect. A significant association between haplotype CGA and HIV-1 infection susceptibility was also found in the exon 1 region. Moreover, rs11003124, rs7084554, rs36014597 and rs11003123 polymorphisms revealed an association with treatment response outcome as measured by RNA viral load. This study highlights the importance of MBL2 polymorphisms in the modulation of HIV-1 infection susceptibility and the contribution to treatment response outcomes among Moroccan subjects.This article describes a method used to calibrate 3-D freehand ultrasound systems based on phantoms with parallel wires forming two perpendicular planes, such as the usual general-purpose commercial phantoms. In our algorithm, the phantom pose is co-optimized with the calibration to avoid the need to precisely track the phantom. We provide a geometrical analysis to explain the proposed acquisition protocol. Finally, we give an estimate of the system accuracy and precision based on measurements acquired on an independent test phantom. We obtained error norms of 1.6 mm up to 6 cm of depth and 3.5 mm between 6 and 14 cm of depth, in total average. In conclusion, it is possible to calibrate ultrasound tracked-probe systems with a reasonable accuracy based on a general-purpose phantom. Contrarily to most calibration methods that imply the construction of the phantom, the present algorithm is based on a standard phantom geometry that is commercially available.
There has been limited examination of how community-level supports may influence oral health metrics among children. The purpose of our study is to examine the association between two types of community-level positive childhood experiences and oral healthcare and oral health outcomes among children ages 6 to 17 years of age.
This study uses a cross-sectional data set from the 2018-2019 National Survey of Children's Health. Two oral health metrics were used preventive dental care, measured as one or more preventive dental visits in the past 12 months, and tooth decay, measured as tooth decay or cavities in the last 12 months. To quantify living in safe, stable, equitable environments, questions on residing in a safe and supportive neighborhood were used. Descriptive statistics and bivariate analyses were used to calculate frequencies, proportions, and unadjusted associations for each variable (n=40,290). Multivariable logistic regression models were used.
In an adjusted analysis, children who lived in a supportive neighborhood had a higher likelihood of receiving a preventive dental visit than children who did not live in a supportive neighborhood (aOR 1.41; 95% CI 1.21-1.65). Children who lived in a safe neighborhood were less likely to have tooth decay than children who did not live in a safe neighborhood (aOR 0.75; 95% CI 0.65-0.86).

Our study aimed to measure HIV prevalence and associated risk factors among men who have sex with men (MSM) in three regions of Paraguay in 2020.
MSM were recruited for cross-sectional surveys in three regions of Paraguay using respondent-driven sampling. Interview were conducted face-to-face to collect demographic characteristics and risk and preventive behaviors. The analysis assessed HIV prevalence and associated risk factors in the three samples of MSM within each region.
A total of 1,207 MSM were recruited, including 559 in Asunción-Central, 245 in Alto Paraná, and 403 in Caaguazú. HIV prevalence was 24.2% (95% CI 20.6-27.9) in Asunción-Central, 10.2% (95% CI 6.7-14.6) in Alto Paraná, and 3.2% (95% CI 1.7-5.4) in Caaguazú. In Asunción-Central, associations with HIV were age ≥25 years (1.86, 95% CI 1.15-3.00), being employed (1.82, 95% CI 1.07-3.11), self-reporting as homosexual (1.90, 95% CI 1.06-3.43), having sex with a known HIV-positive partner acquisition (4.19, 95% CI 2.37-7.43), self-perceivehomosexual was associated with HIV in all three regions, other associations differed, indicating prevention programs need to be tailored to the locale.The hydrogen-bonded organic frameworks (HOFs) have rarely been considered for photocatalytic application, given their weak stability and low activity. One presumably effective strategy to improve the photocatalytic performance of the HOFs is to produce a core-shell composite by fabricating a particular nanostructure using stable HOFs. To this end, the surface-functionalized metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are used as the host matrix to support the in situ assembly and subsequent multisite growth of the stable HOFs. MOF@HOF eventually obtains core-shell hybrids, i.e., NH2 -UiO-66@DAT-HOF. This newly synthesized core-shell nanostructure exhibits excellent stability and superb photocatalytic performance. For example, in terms of tetracycline degradation, the optimal composite presents an apparent reaction rate constant of 60.7 and 7.6 times higher than its parent materials NH2 -UiO-66 and DAT-HOF. Such a pronounced enhancement in photocatalytic efficiency of the hybrid material is attributed to the broader visible-light utilization range compared to its individual parent material as well as the efficient separation of charge carriers supported by the S-scheme heterojunction. In addition, it is particularly notable that the photocatalytic efficiency of the yielded core-shell nanostructure can remain high after several-cycle applications. In mechanical metamaterials, structural-phase transitions can be achieved through instability or buckling of certain structural elements. However, these fast transitions in one mechanical parameter typically affect significantly the remaining parameters, hence, limiting their applications. Here, this limitation is addressed by designing a novel 3D mechanical metamaterial that is capable of undergoing a phase transition from positive to negative Poisson's ratio under compression, without significant degradation of Young's modulus (i.e. the phase transition is elastically-stable). The metamaterial is fabricated by two-photon lithography at the micro-scale and its mechanical behavior is assessed experimentally. Transcriptome sequencing was performed to determine the effect of lithium administration on the transcriptome of the PFC in ketamine-treated mice, showing inactivation of the phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K)-protein kinase B (AKT) signaling pathway. This poses a greater risk of cross-species transmission due to poor preventive awareness and frequent interactions with breeders. In this study, we investigated the viral composition of 34 pangolins with no signs of disease at the time of sampling and characterized a large number of arthropod-associated viruses belonging to 11 families and vertebrate viruses belonging to eight families, including those with pathogenic potential in humans and animals. Several important vertebrate viruses were identified in the pangolins, including parvovirus, pestivirus, and picobirnavirus. The picobirnavirus was clustered with human and grey teal picobirnaviruses. Viruses with cross-species transmission ability were also identified, including circovirus, rotavirus, and astrovirus. Our study revealed that pangolins are frequently exposed to arthropod-associated viruses in the wild and can carry many vertebrate viruses under natural conditions. Notably, dihydroartemisinin (DHA) (100 µmol/L) and (S, S)-(+)-tetrandrine (TET) (16 µmol/L) exhibited high antiviral effects in epithelioma papulosum cyprinid (EPC) cells, with inhibitory rates of 70.11% and 73.54%, respectively.
