A systematic literature review was undertaken to ascertain the prevalence of self-harm and suicidal behaviour in children and young people under 18 years old with a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder (ASD), with or without an intellectual disability. There was variation in the reported prevalence rates but results suggested that rates of both self-harm and suicidal behaviour may be elevated in ASD compared to the general population. This is in keeping with literature relating to autistic adults but in contrast to conclusions of a previous systematic review. This review highlights the need for further research to explore the experience of self-harm and suicidal behaviour in autistic children and young people.This study explored whether the Interpersonal Theory of suicide informs our understanding of high rates of suicidality in autistic adults. Autistic and non-autistic adults (n = 695, mean age 41.7 years, 58% female) completed an online survey of self-reported thwarted belonging, perceived burden, autistic traits, suicidal capability, trauma, and lifetime suicidality. Autistic people reported stronger feelings of perceived burden, thwarted belonging and more lifetime trauma than non-autistic people. The hypothesised interaction between burdensomeness and thwarted belonging were observed in the non-autistic group but not in the autistic group. In both groups autistic traits influenced suicidality through burdensomeness/thwarted belonging. Promoting self-worth and social inclusion are important for suicide prevention and future research should explore how these are experienced and expressed by autistic people.The Modified Checklist for Autism in Toddlers, Revised, with Follow-Up (M-CHAT-R/F) is the most widely used screener for ASD. Despite the comparable rate of ASD in Black and White children, the M-CHAT-R/F was validated on a primarily White, Non-Hispanic sample. Few studies have assessed whether the screener performs adequately with racial minorities. This study compared the M-CHAT-R/F Positive Predictive Value (PPV), for ASD, and for any developmental condition, in Black and White children. We also examined M-CHAT-R/F item-level PPV by race. Implications for assessment and intervention are discussed.In photosynthetic reaction centers (RCs) of purple bacteria, conserved histidine residues [His L173 and His M202 in Rhodobacter (Rba.) sphaeroides] are known to serve as fifth axial ligands to the central Mg atom of the bacteriochlorophyll (BChl) molecules (PA and PB, respectively) that constitute the homodimer (BChl/BChl) primary electron donor P. In a number of previous studies, it has been found that replacing these residues with leucine, which cannot serve as a ligand to the Mg ion of BChl, leads to the assembly of heterodimer RCs with P represented by the BChl/BPheo pair. Here, we show that a homodimer P is assembled in Rba. sphaeroides RCs if the mutation H(M202)L is combined with the mutation of isoleucine to histidine at position M206 located in the immediate vicinity of PB. The resulting mutant H(M202)L/I(M206)H RCs are characterized using pigment analysis, redox titration, and a number of spectroscopic methods. It is shown that, compared to wild-type RCs, the double mutation causes significant changes in the absorption spectrum of the P homodimer and the electronic structure of the radical cation P+, but has only minor effect on the pigment composition, the P/P+ midpoint potential, and the initial electron-transfer reaction. The results are discussed in terms of the nature of the axial ligand to the Mg of PB in mutant H(M202)L/I(M206)H RCs and the possibility of His M202 participation in the previously proposed through-bond route for electron transfer from the excited state P* to the monomeric BChl BA in wild-type RCs.Insulin resistance (IR) and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a leading cause of deaths due to metabolic disorders in recent years. Rest of the risk factors may include inflammation, β-cell dysfunction, oxidative stress, hormonal imbalance, apoptosis, and enzyme dysregulation. Here, we have highlighted how oleic acid regulates underlying causatives factors and hence, keeps surpassing effect in prevention and treatment of IR and T2DM. However, the percentage contribution of these factors in combating IR and ultimately averting T2DM is still debatable. Thus, because of its exceptional protective effect, it can be considered as an improved therapeutic agent in prophylaxis and/or treatment of IR and T2DM.
