Radiomic features hold potential to improve prediction of disease-free survival (DFS) in triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) and may show better performance if developed from TNBC patients. We aimed to develop a radiomics score based on MRI features to estimate DFS in patients with TNBC. A total of 228 TNBC patients who underwent preoperative MRI and surgery between April 2012 and December 2016 were included. Patients were temporally divided into the training (n = 169) and validation (n = 59) set. Radiomic features of the tumor were extracted from T2-weighted and contrast-enhanced T1- weighted MRI. Then a radiomics score was constructed with the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator regression in the training set. Univariate and multivariate Cox proportional hazards models were used to determine what associations the radiomics score and clinicopathologic variables had with DFS. A combined clinicopathologic-radiomic (CCR) model was constructed based on multivariate Cox analysis. The incremental values of the radiomics score were evaluated by using the integrated area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (iAUC) and bootstrapping (n = 1000). The radiomics score, which consisted of 5 selected MRI features, was significantly associated with worse DFS in both the training and validation sets (p = 0.002, p = 0.033, respectively). The biosynthesis of flagella in E. albertii cells was induced under ambient temperature and hypoosmotic pressure conditions which resemble aquatic environments. Flagellar induction increased E. albertii survival in the intestinal epithelial cell culture containing gentamicin. Although genes involved in chemotaxis are not present in the E. albertii genome, the addition of glutamic acid, an amino acid known to regulate the internal cell osmolarity, augmented the proportion of swimming cells by 35-fold. A fully implantable device, however, would ultimately be desirable as it would be of great benefit to recipients. While some prototypes have been designed and used in a few select cases, one main stumbling block is the sound input. Specifically, subdermal implantable microphone technology has been poised with physiologic issues such as sound distortion and signal attenuation under the skin. Here we propose an alternative method that utilizes a physiologic response composed of an electrical field generated by the sensory cells of the inner ear to serve as a sound source microphone for fully implantable hearing technology such as CIs. Electrophysiological results obtained from 14 participants (adult and pediatric) document the feasibility of capturing speech properties within the electrocochleography (ECochG) response. Degradation of formant properties of the stimuli /da/ and /ba/ are evaluated across various degrees of hearing loss. Preliminary results suggest proof-of-concept of using the ECochG response as a microphone is feasible to capture vital properties of speech. In community-based interventions with spill-over effects, identifying influential spreaders may be harnessed to increase the spreading efficiency of social contagion, in terms of time needed to spread all the largest connected component of the network. Several strategies have been proved to be efficient using only data and simulation-based models in specific network topologies without a consensus of an overall result. Hence, the purpose of this paper is to benchmark the spreading efficiency of seeding strategies related to network structural properties and sizes. We simulate spreading processes on empirical and simulated social networks within a wide range of densities, clustering coefficients, and sizes. We also propose three new decentralized seeding strategies that are structurally different from well-known strategies community hubs, ambassadors, and random hubs. We observe that the efficiency ranking of strategies varies with the network structure. In general, for sparse networks with community structure, decentralized influencers are suitable for increasing the spreading efficiency. By contrast, when the networks are denser, centralized influencers outperform. These results provide a framework for selecting efficient strategies according to different contexts in which social networks emerge.
