In this study, fault diagnosis method of bearing utilizing gray level co-occurrence matrix (GLCM) and multi-beetles antennae search algorithm (MBASA)-based kernel extreme learning machine (KELM) is presented. In the proposed method, feature extraction of time-frequency image based on GLCM is proposed to extract the features of the bearing vibration signal, and multi-beetles antennae search algorithm-based KELM (MBASA-KELM) is presented to recognize the states of bearing. KELM employs the kernel-based framework, which has better generalization than traditional extreme learning machine, and it is necessary to look for an excellent optimization algorithm to select appropriate regularization parameter and kernel parameter of the KELM model because these parameters of the KELM model can affect its performance. As traditional beetle antennae search algorithm only employs one beetle, which is difficult to find the optimal parameters when the ranges of the parameters to be optimized are wide, multi-beetles antennae search algorithm (MBASA) employing multi-beetles is presented to select the regularization parameter and kernel parameter of KELM. The experimental results demonstrate that MBASA-KELM has stronger fault diagnosis ability for bearing than LSSVM, and KNN.Fish use odor to avoid exposure to predation and disease. Harnessing these odors as repellents is proving useful for management initiatives that conserve native species or control invasive populations. Here, we evaluated the behavioral response of invasive sea lamprey to putrescine, a decay molecule that many prey organisms avoid. Putrescine is found in tissue extracts that contain sea lamprey alarm cue, and human saliva, two mixtures known to elicit flight and avoidance responses in migratory sea lamprey. We used two behavioral assays to evaluate metrics of repellency behavioral preference (space use) and change in activity rates and found context-dependent results. In smaller assays with individual fish, we found that putrescine had no effect on sea lamprey activity but did induce avoidance. In larger assays with multiple animals, sea lamprey did not avoid putrescine. Our results also showed consistent changes in activity and avoidance behavior in sea lamprey exposed to alarm cue in the smaller assay, concluding that this design could prove useful as a high-throughput screening tool. We also investigated a novel odor identified in sea lamprey skin, petromyzonacil, and found no behavioral effects to this odor on its own or in synergy with putrescine. Our results show limited evidence that putrescine acts as robust repellent for sea lamprey and highlight the importance of environmental context when interpreting avoidance behavior in laboratory settings.Social soft robotics may provide a new solution for alleviating human pain and fear. Here, we introduce a hand-held soft robot that can be clenched by the wearer. The robot comprises small airbags that can be inflated to provide the wearer with a feeling of being clenched. We then conducted an in-depth study of 66 adults who participated in a pain research protocol using thermal stimulation to investigate the effect of wearing the robot on pain perception and fear of injections. Pain assessment scale scores for perceived pain decreased significantly [Formula see text] when participants wore the robot compared with the baseline condition in which the robot was not worn. In addition, the saliva test results showed a downward trend in oxytocin level when the robot provided the wearer with haptic feedback via the inflation of the internal airbags in response to the wearer's clench. Furthermore, the negative psychological state of participants, as measured using the positive and negative affect scale, improved significantly when wearing the robot. We also revealed that the salivary cortisol level, an indicator of stress, decreased significantly across all participants at the end of the experiment. In addition, participants' fear of injections was significantly improved after participation in the experiment. These results suggest that the wearable soft robot may alleviate the human perception of pain and fear in during medical treatments, such as vaccinations.Some bacteria express a binary toxin translocation system, consisting of an enzymatic subunit and translocation pore, that delivers enzymes into host cells through endocytosis. CDTb has been proposed to be a di-heptamer, but its physiological heptameric structure has not yet been reported. Here, we report the cryo-EM structure of CDTa bound to the CDTb-pore, which reveals that CDTa binding induces partial unfolding and tilting of the first CDTa α-helix. In the CDTb-pore, an NSS-loop exists in 'in' and 'out' conformations, suggesting its involvement in substrate translocation. Finally, 3D variability analysis revealed CDTa movements from a folded to an unfolded state. These dynamic structural information provide insights into drug design against hypervirulent C. difficile strains.Continuous glucose monitoring systems (CGMS) are becoming increasingly popular in diabetes management compared to conventional methods of self-blood glucose monitoring systems. They help understanding physiological responses towards nutrition intake, physical activities in everyday life and glucose control. CGMS available in market are of two types based on their working principle. Needle type systems with few weeks lifespan (e.g., enzyme-based Freestyle Libre) and implant type system (e.g., fluorescence-based Senseonics) with few months of lifespan are commercially available. An alternate to both working methods, herein, we propose electromagnetic-based sensor that can be subcutaneously implanted and capable of tracking minute changes in dielectric permittivity owing to changes in blood glucose level (BGL). Proof-of-concept of proposed electromagnetic-based implant sensor has been validated in intravenous glucose tolerance test (IVGTT) conducted on swine and beagle in a controlled environment. Sensor interface modules, mobile applications, and glucose mapping algorithms are also developed for continuous measurement in a freely moving beagle during oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT). The results of the short-term (1 h, IVGTT) and long-term (52 h, OGTT) test are summarized in this work. A close trend is observed between sensor frequency and BGL during GTT experiments on both animal species.In our previous study, we reported that sirtuin5 (SIRT5), a member of the NAD+-dependent class III histone deacetylase family, is highly expressed in colorectal cancer (CRC). Herein we show that SIRT5 knockdown impairs the production of ribose-5-phosphate, which is essential for nucleotide synthesis, resulting in continuous and irreparable DNA damage and consequently leading to cell cycle arrest and enhanced apoptosis in CRC cells. These SIRT5 silencing-induced effects can be reversed by nucleoside supplementation. Mechanistically, SIRT5 activates transketolase (TKT), a key enzyme in the non-oxidative pentose phosphate pathway, in a demalonylation-dependent manner. Furthermore, TKT is essential for SIRT5-induced malignant phenotypes of CRC both in vivo and in vitro. Type-II nodal rings, as line degeneracies in momentum space with exotic properties from strong tilting, are directly observed through ultrasonic near-field scanning. Strongly tilted drumhead surface states, the hallmark phenomena, are also experimentally demonstrated. The catalytic performance of hematite shows a significant facet-dependence with the reactivity in the order 012 &gt; 104 ≫ 001, related to the atomic array of surface undercoordinated Fe. The 012 and 104 facets with the proper neighboring Fe-Fe distance of 0.34-0.39 nm can bidentately coordinate with PAEs, and thus induce much stronger Lewis-acid catalysis. Our study may inspire the development of nanomaterials with appropriate surface atomic arrays, improves our understanding for the natural transformation of PAEs under low humidity environment, and provides a promising approach to remediate/purify the ambient air contaminated by PAEs.
